I can't believe the resentment that is present on this forum for the so called "bandwagoners."
Everyone laments the early season crowds of 4 and 5 000 and shouts for joy at the 17 000 for the semi final. You can't really have it both ways to have the big crowds and the festooned shops and the front page newspaper reports and the blanket coverage on radio then you have to encourage all supporters, even the ones who will give up when we lose a couple on the trot.
As for the animosity towards people who are trying to get tickets, but are not Marinators that is ridiculous.
You guys have done a great job with flyers and fanzines to encourage support. I agree no Marinator should miss out and priority should go to them, but there should be no us and them mentality amongst supporters. Lawrie has certainly ensured that with the team and the supporters.

The issue is that true supporters and even members are missing out on tickets. As i said on another thread, the FFA should have made monday members only.
I guess the issue of bandwagoners is a possessive thing. Its been my team all year, i was there even at the smallest crowds, had good parking, no need to line up for a beer. Success changes that. Success is good, as it means more cash, but success can also take away a little bit as well.
Like the Big Day Out. When it started it was for growing bands playing to small crowds (less than 10K). Now it is established bands with huge crowds and its just not the same, nor as fun. Sure there is more publicity and bigger profits, but the intimacy is gone. Thats how people feel about the bandwagoners.

I think it's great to see such an interest from new people, it's critical that this happens. I just hope they come next season to home and away fixtures, time will tell if they do hey! I agree that members should have been given priority, after all, that's 1 of the reasons you become a member. But it didn't happen so people need to get over it, it's happened, fingers crossed it's a lesson learnt for next year. If the Mariners played their final outside of NSW would it be an issue? Of course not because these 'bandwagoners' probably wouldn't go.

it's human nature to take elitist views, and it's nothing new. It happens in English football too. It can be misguided but can also serve to encourage new members.
I do have a question though, for those who have just started coming to games...what took you so long? They played the same entertaining and exciting football in the World Club championships and pre-season cup as they are now! I can understand if you are new to football, but for all those involved in football on the coast - you took you're time!!

I think the die-hards are entitled a mild whinge.
If it wasn't for the people that have been there from the start, there wouldn't be a club to support. We've basically paid for what they are enjoying now.
As for the ticket thing, it's pretty clear who is more deserving of a ticket. Now it's a case of the people paying and supporting all year to help get the team to the grand final, then not being able to watch it, while the newcomers do. Not really fair.
But beyond the mild whinge there's not much more to say. The new die-hards will come from the bandwagoners. Their money is worth as much as anyones. And it's not their fault that the FFA f***ed up.

what exactly do we call bandwagoners? are bandwagoners the new supporters who really want to get into.but can't because people wont let them?everyone is a bandwagoner one here.it was started by a couple of guys and it grew and grew.I reckon it is effing fantastic what us marinators do.But again if poeple want to join they have the right don't they?and just because theyare new to bay 16.doesn't mean they havn't been to every game..you got to remember that!

bandwagoners are those that see a team who hasn't lost in months and is charging towards a grand final and think - gee i'd like to be a part of that. some wont miss a game for the rest of their life after this, and good on them, but that's not the case for all of them. some wont be back until we are going to make our next grand final, whether that's next year or 10 years.

Yes I agree about blow ins but thats life my son commented after the knock out final against Newcastle that he and his mates where overrun by newcomers . He has been to every home game and travelled by bus to Newcastle and as part of the Marinators he felt terrific amongst a crowd of 5000/7000 but in a crowd of 17000 it was differant. Any way he is off to GF so he will be there cheering with the yellow tide.

We have bandwagoners at home in Scotland but over there we call them Rangers Supporters. LOL. Unless they are Catholic (not talking religion here of course ). Look everyone has bandwagoners no matter what code and it justs amazes me sometimes the real supporter just misses out. But thats my opinion.

Couldn't agree more, but they miss out even when they are there because they can never truely appreciate being a "real supporter" I like most of us on here was at the games where we were getting 5,000 people turning up. Sitting in the rain and not watching the high standard of football we play at now. Althought we did get glimpses back then. Basically to truely appreicate the highs you must have experianced the lows. Glory Hunters never get that.

Refer to my thread titled concerned.
I am upset at some people's attitudes on this board and agree with the sentiment at the start of this thread.

I have missed out on tickets to the GF-why? Many reasons, i was unable to get up early and camp out, hubby didn't want me to go to the game on my own and money are a few. Yes i am dissapointed, yes i want to be there but i can't. I don't blame the bandwagons or anyone else-shit happens! I too have been to every home game and sat through the rain and cold to see my team play and i will take pride in watching them win the GF even if i'm watching it at home. Everyone likes to jump on the winning train but who knows, many may stay for the whole ride! GO MARINERS!

Sure there will be the bandwagoners who are not seen until the finals next season, but if the Mariners can turn some of the "bandwagoners" now in to people that turn up week in week out, and/or season ticket holders then surely that is a positive from the so called band wagoners.
