Spenny's Spiel #26
Thursday, 2 March, 2006 - 3:00PM
Two matches have passed since my last spiel, so there’s plenty to catch up on!
Firstly, our final home match of the season against the Newcastle United Jets was a night to remember.
The crowd was outstanding, obviously it was the biggest crowd of our season and the Central Coast public really did come out in numbers.
As it turns out, it seems that it was the fans that got us over the line!
When we went 1-0 down, our fans were outstanding and pivotal to us getting back to 1-1 and qualify for the Preliminary Final.
The numbers there was a perfect example of how football fever has hit the coast!
We’re extremely proud of our fans and the least we can do is to claim the Hyundai A-League championship this Sunday.
Following the game against the Jets, we lined up Adelaide for what was our biggest game of the season up to that point.
Traveling away to Adelaide was always going to be difficult and to beat the Premiers 1-0 was an amazing achievement for the club.
The boys dug in, did well, and we have now given ourselves every opportunity to become inaugural Hyundai A-League champions.
We’ve been training twelve months to the day almost and the boys have worked their tails off to get to the position we are now.
The boys are really excited and really pumped up for the game, it’s every footballers dream and I’m sure the boys will aim up and produce and do everything they can to bring home the championship.
The support we have been receiving from the Central Coast public has been fantastic.
It’s been nothing short of massive, the town has gone bananas, it really is a football frenzy!
The boys are absolutely amazed by the support we’ve received in recent weeks, we know we’ve got the whole coast behind us, that’s what we set out to achieve and the only thing we need to do now is win the ‘frisbee’ and throw it around with our supporters at Terrigal Beach!
On behalf of myself and all of the players we want to thank every single person that has been to our games this season or has been a part of the Mariners in any way or shape.
We’ll do our best to get a result for all of you, we know that you’re behind us
