Well as everyone is saying the boy's played out of there skin yesterday and it was just not netting that goal in the first half that we probley should have that was the differance. Well done to all the lads and will be back bigger and better next season and go all the way.

What a damn fine effort both on and off the park. Both sets of fans should be congratulated on the atmosphere and banter of the day. Hopefully next year they'll get the ticketing right, and we'll be able to take up one half of the SFS!

Andyfrain, I suggest you were not watching the games when Tommy was out but we were still winning. Watch the gf replay closely you may find you change your mind about Super Stew. He does (and did a lot on Sun) of the setting up of movements and putting people into gaps. I do not think at all he has held Tommy back and quite often is the man in the right place to take advantage of the crosses. The chip on Bolton was just a fraction away from being perfect as was Tommy's attempted chip in the second half. I too have walked away from games thinking that he was maybe getting a bit off the pace and then watching the replays and seeing the incredible amount of good things he does. His passes are generally first time and spot on which gives others that yard of extra space. He has not been a great finisher off the boot this year but his headers have been magnificent and his service to others superb. I think you will find that next year Mrdja will score heaps playing beside him and Tommy will be back providing (and scoring) from midfield. He may be getting on but the quality and experience (and heart) still show through. Do not sell him short too quickly.

sydney fan, here. seems many varied opinions on who deserved to win the game but i will leave that alone. my dissappointment was yorke as man of the match. even many of the sydney people thought beauchamp was the man. very tough for him but having seen him play at marconi than parra, i am pretty sure we will be watching him next at the world cup. great season folks, seeya next year!

I thought before the ball had been kicked yesterday, we were already the winners. All so called experts said at the start of the year that we were there to make up the numbers and that we would finish last. Out of the 3 finals over the year, we were in all 3 !!! - Huge effort. We lost the CWC final due to a deflected goal. We won the pre-season final, and in my opinion we should have had a few goals in the first half yesterday.
Those who have haven't missed a game at Gosford, like myself, would have seen the crowds rise each week culminating in 17,500 in our last home game.
If someone had told me any of the above at the beginning of the season I would have laughed at them.
Now I can't wait for next year, it's going to be bigger and better.

i know i've already posted in here, but today i'm more coherent (not because last night i was pissed - impossibly huge beer queues put paid to that, but the night of a loss you're never quite right).
the game - well shit, you're going to lose some that you might otherwise have won. the first half we could have smacked a couple past them, that said, saso petrovski probably should have done better than lamely poking a shot at danny too, and they were much more competitive in the second half.
that said, persistent fouling = card time, and saso got away with a bit too much. their back line was faster than i gave them credit for, and i don't think we broke them down as well as we might have in other games. we were a bit shot-shy too.
i don't think the boys left anything in reserve though, they were all looking pretty spent at the end. rough luck, and a tragic end to the year, but in football finals there's always gonna be someone unhappy, and we drew the short straw.
the crowd - erm... well, i think bay 3 went off. sadly, i wasn't in bay 3. bay 1 had a bunch of families, well intentioned noobs and some right shit-for-brains dickheads who were more interested in swapping stupid insults with an equally dickheaded FC supporter on the western side and starting up chants of "mardi gras". yeah, we know mardi gras was on last night, but we're here for the football.
oh, and the guy who started monkey noises a couple of times when dwight got the ball is probably lucky there were people between him and us. he shut it when we figured out who it was, but that's not on at all. f***ing dickhead.
singing- bay 3 sounded ok, but there was so much background noise that it was hard to join in, and everyone at our end was sitting. when a song carried over, we were trying to get the bay into it, but some of the noobs would just run off with it completely off rhythm. this was a particular problem with 'everywhere we go', because rhythm is everything, and these guys didn't have it.
the megs looked as if they got bay 3 very well coordinated, but on our side (and probably on the other) they didn't really carry. we would have needed them further along, perhaps on the bay 1-2 aisle, and having the leaders in those aisles basically following the central group as closely as possible to get the sound up. visual cues of some sort would have helped enormously, as light travels faster than sound so if you're on the outside you see the rhythm before you hear it. if we could get the rhythm going, it would be much easier to get everyone pumped and singing because everyone's attached to the centre. for what it's worth, the cove had trouble getting noisy as well it seems[/rant about singing]
in the end, it was a tough day, and a great day. after they scored and we were rising, trying to get the equaliser, i was so nervous i felt like i was going to hurl. and full time just had me feeling cold. next year, we're gonna take the lot.

Well done to all those involved with the Mariners. Players, coaching staff and administrators did an unbelievable job all year. You are a credit to the Central Coast.
I am a born and bred coastie and I have never experienced anything that has united the coast like the Mariners.
I watched the first half of the season from my lounge room and the second half from the east and west sides of CC stadium. After sitting in Bay 3 on Sunday I realise I wasted most of the season. The Marinators are incredible.
As a die hard Wests Tigers supporter I thought nothing could top last years grand final. However, the passion and comaraderie amongst the marinators has it all over those fans.
I have always been a football fan but the NSL did little to inspire me. The A-League is a comp we can all be proud of.
I look forward to seeing you all in Bay 16 next year.

It's all about taking your chances at the end of the day isn't it, and we just didn't do it. SP over the bar and Sully cutting inside, we should have been at least a goal up at half time. We contained Sydney for 70 minutes and probably won every statistic, but that counts for nothing if you don't convert. I said all week we were winners just for making it too, but it's gut wrenching when you were by far and away the better side. I still hurt.

We were better in the first half, they were better in the second and as Glen said it's simple, it's a game of chances and we didn't put ours away. Still proud of the team and at the end of the day 6 other teams would have given anything to be in our position.

some excellent photos
gumps amd teriyaki - nice one
the first photo is donny parkes with teriyaki's dad (mick) - he used to be a chelsea headhunter
some sydney fan came up to him after the game and told him he was wearing the wrong colours
mick pulled his mariners shirt up to reveal a black death metal shirt with skulls and crossbones
mick stared the sydney fan in the face and said "is this better"
the sydney fan just bolted
funny stuff
