Who would have predicted it?
This is great and big news for the Mariners however it does remain to be seen whether his fitness will allow him to perform to his very high standard.
I for one will be an interested observer to see how this develops.

Well apparently been given the all clear health wise, so some positive signs there Will be on Ch7 Sunrise program tomorrow at some stage for anyone that can watch it. It will generate a lot of great publicity for us which will have lots of knock on benefits. Journalists (even those from the official HAL website) may pay more attention and take us seriously. It could potentially attract other ex Rangers (boo!) and Socceroos to the club. Sponsorship is another obvious side of the club that could benefit. Season ticket sales and general sales hopefully will increase as a result. We need a little realism here, he is only one player and a defender so I won't be expecting queue for ticket tomorrow but a good step. If we get a home semi and he plays it might be quite an evening. Anyone know his current fitness. I guessing fine as he made himself available for the Socceroos. Anyone know for sure.

Great news for several reasons: 1) Will add plenty of experience and class to our squad 2) Maybe used in a coaching capacity as well and will be great for Wilko and the other young lads 3) We must be doing ok financially as Lyall wouldnt risk our future (FFA are probably contributing but he would still cost a bit) 4) Will hopefully put a few extra bums on seats at mighty Bluetongue!

That same story is appearing on 'twg' webpage. Never been one of my favourites, I'll reserve my judgement on his playing style but from a media point of view, this is excellent for the mariners if it does go ahead.

I think the likes of Archie Thompson, Alex Brosque and Joel Griffiths will test him, I think Beachamp is a better player and would have been in the World Cup squad even if Vidmar was fit. We don't need defenders in this league, we want goals and that means strikers, send the defenders to the minor leagues in the UK. Negative signing, should have got Joel Griffiths and let Petrie go home, imagine Griffiths and Pondeljak working together, speed to burn. We should be developing young defenders and buying goal scorers.
