i was out in the rain and wind the whole game (the girl in the michelen-man type jacket with the red umbrella and we jeans in bay 7) i was suprissed by the amount of kids there, not as many as usual but still quite a few. Yeah, there were a few where I was in the East stand. Kids love the rain, just give 'em a raincoast and some wellingtons and they'll have a bloody ball.

ha ha ha yeah, there was this one kid in a barbie raincoat hopping up and down the stairs non stop, it was cute and all but she had an irritating bang-bang-banggity-bang rythym going, and i was tempted to stick my foot out and trip her over by half time ;D

Like all, I was disappointed at 1 rather than 3 points and still no goal to celebrate but also relieved that despite us probably being more deserving of the win the Roar couldn't find our net on a couple of occasions when they busted through.
Still, if this is the difference between top and bottom of the table atm, we're in OK shape. 1 win off equal 3rd.
Love having Tommy out there again, really unlucky but just mesmerises.
I'd like to think the crowd size was all 'weather' and no 'novelty's worn off' or 'position on the table'. It wasn't just our worst crowd, also the record low for an A-League round (but no games Syd, Mel, Bris). It wasn't pleasant but I guess the way the day looked it has the potential to be horrible. Pity the pitch can't be taken up and wrung out over Mangrove Creek Dam - drought over !! (or has the drought masked some serious drainage issues at Bluetongue, a premium stadium should do better than that).

I would like to say how much I had a great time last night. I am so glad my kids talk me into going out in the weather, while my wife stayed at home and sung Sound of Music to herself.
This was my first venture out to the stadium and I can't wait until the Newcastle Jets game in two weeks.
To the game, I wa really suprised to see the game start. The pitch was water logged to the max. It was good to see the Mariners get stuck in, and the ref take a couple of tumbles in the water. Given the conditions I think a draw was a good result. Will be interesting to see how they cope next weekend against the Victory.
Until next time. enjoy...

Iam glad all the boys came off the park uninjured. IT was the sort of conditions were even the best of intentions on the park could of left someone with serious injuries. People sliding everywhere.....

have to agree jolly, those conditions can be very dangerous so it is a big plus that all the boys have come through ok (as far as i know)

I agree that a draw wasn't bad, given the conditions, but there's no way the game should have gone ahead....just farcical at times.
We probably came closest to scoring, but Qld had plenty of chances of their own - just glad that wee bugger from Dundee, Lynch, didn't grab a winner! Gumps definitely made a difference, but overall, I didn't think there was great service to the front 2. I also think we need a bit more mobility up front. Petrie has a reasonable strike-rate, but there's no way he'll outrun a younger, more mobile defender. I'd still look at replacing Kwasnik with Tommy......got a few goals from the SP-Tommy partnership last term.

(or has the drought masked some serious drainage issues at Bluetongue, a premium stadium should do better than that). A big thumbs up to the brave souls who went to the match. A crowd of that size is good for the Mariners given the atrocious weather. I HAD to go to work, but managed to watch a bit of the second half on Foxtel and the pitch was a mess. Real glad there wasn't any major injuries out in that slop. From what I've heard about the construction of the stadium, the drainage is usually pretty good. I think they recycle the water for watering the pitch so we must have enough now for the whole season! But the southern end was like low tide on Brisbane Waters, and it gave Danny plenty of headaches trying to anticipate the drop of the ball as he went out to it. All I can guess what happened was that there had been plenty of rain during the week and the soil was just waterlogged before the downpour on matchday. While I would have liked a win (who wouldn't) I would take a draw in those conditions anyday.

Tough conditions so cant be to picky with the boys. Though tommy was a huge boost in the midfield and think we will fit in well with macca if we can get them both on the park together. Altho O'Grady i think didn't handle the conditions as well as everyone else did. To many time cleared balls for corners or throwins that he could have easily layed off to someone else. And as mentioned by keensy he never chases hard after getting beatin for speed. Could end up hurting us in the dry.

At least O'Grady didn't do anything silly in the wet like give the ball to a free Qld player with space to shot. Besides, he has a lot of hieght, which helps in defence.

Could end up hurting us in the dry. totally disagree about stringers if i had a dollar everytime i called a good tackle or a clearing header from stringers i would have had enough to buy a case of bluetongue in particular, i think it was lynch who would have had a free header at goal right in front of us when o'grady put a block on him. and the number of really awkward balls he punted off to the next postcode when doing anything else would have been risky was amazing. if in doubt, kick it out, i always say. had a great game. honestly, i don't think we had a bad player. kwas was the nearly man all night - things just never quite fell right for him but he constantly got into a good position. better luck would have had him scoring a hat trick and the knockers turning cartwheels to sing his praises. SP was definitely the weaker link, bust was still ok and had a couple of chances. i just feel ripped off because to look at the quality of football that was able to be played in the conditions, you have to see that a dry game would have been an absolute stormer - speed, passing, attacking intent and committed defending. much like the 3 games we had against them last year i guess! ;D looks like a good rivalry that will keep providing some exciting football.

Indeed, The boys played really well i thought considering the conditions - which were down right shocking! Like WTF! one would think that for the Main/biggest stadium on the coast we could get some proper drainage happening.. The bad weather didn't help, i got wet and got totally soaked running back to the car @ the station but it was good to see tommy out there, and with a bit of luck we would have won that game.. I'm still disappointed about the fact we still haven't scored a single goal in the entire Season...

I thought Kwassies goal was great. Can't say any more he didn't score. He put himself on (over )the line.
Thought is was a much improved game. To keep QLD scoreless was great and Andre as usual was awesome. Hopefully they will improve again on this to beat Melbourne

In another post someone alluded to the fact there was a problem with the drainage system and a pump. I have been to the stadium during torrential downpours and there has never been a drop of surface water. Something was amiss the other night

Dont forget, the stadium is actually built over a creek (check out some old pics pre Graham Park). Perhaps the water table had really risen with the rain over the preceeding few days?
Yes, O'Grady will always get done for pace, he is a big guy and built for stamina not speed. However, in conditions like Saturday, "when in doubt, hoof it out"

Apparently the pumps broke down during the week and it didn't stop raining for long enough to fix them.

oh well, it made it a bit more amusing, watchign someone boot the ball only to have it stop whilst in mid-boot and no one was in the right place for it.
