Just got home from the game... Mariners 0 Roar 0 Much better performance from the boys in horrible conditions. Tommy was unlucky, hitting the bar a couple of times. Vukovic saved our arse a couple of times, especially from Lynch. Dissapointing crowd 4600 or so, but to be expected I guess with the weather. What's everyone elses thoughts?

Not a bad effort I think it was goingto be hard for anyone to score so we did well in difficut conditions.

Shocking conditions! How many times did the ball just stop dead? Mariners did well but I think without Danny's great saves we would have been in trouble. Aside from a few times I didn't think we gave the roar much trouble but conditions contributed to that too. Great to see Gumps back doing his job. Spenny had a great game, Wilko too (as usual) Just gotta get that elusive 1st goal. Not too worried, we played well and it's it's only a matter of time. Nice to meet you yellowcake!
Bay 16 did well but guys you have to keep the chants going longer, at the moment by the time we have picked up on what you are singing you have finished it! We had bagpipes going in bay 41 tonight which was great but made it hard to hear bay 16 at times.
LETS WIN THE NEXT ONE MARINERS!
I take it the banner didn't come out because of the rain?

Tommy P was very unlucky not to score.
Goes to show why we've only won one game without him.

Match report is up on: www.back-of-the-net.comI had a hard time with the player points - thought Wilko played a clever game at central defence in the wet conditions.

Great game, but very wet. That sums it up the match. Grumprecht was great - and with him and tommy back, things looked much better then last match. Pity Tommy go the crossbar twice, but Qld had chances too. It the pitch wasn't waterlogged we would have had a even more entertaining match. Didn't really see anyone not perform, besides the ref - poor decisions against both teams. Line refs were decent though.

Tommy's bottom of crossbar shot was a heartbreaker. You could feel momentum building for a goal and that would have been the moment. For his two woodwork efforts I felt we would have been deserved winners.
But for the game generally I thought it was pretty good by both teams in difficult conditions, it didn't deteriorate into a wet-weather boot-fest. We played the more football when it came to carving out chances where they looked most threatening from Reddy's kicks over our heads for Reinaldo or Lynch to chase.
Tommy was our best player for me, he ran at the defence whenever he could and looked to make something happen. The defenders were classy as they have been previously. We still lacked a little spark from the front two.
Remember Roar are the only team we've never beaten in the A-League. All in all we had the system and the enthusiasm to win the game with a bit more luck so things are looking up.
Potentially 6 points in the next two games with our favourite ground Olympic Park and a home match against the scumburgers.

I do not rate Paul O'grady one bit. He is shaky at centre back but once he is pushed wider in the defence he gets worse IMO. Also when he does get beaten he doesnt turn and chase. Porter would have been a better option at the back

Unless Clark plays next week, O'grady shall play. Porter is leaving for Young Socceroos today. Though O'Grady is quite good at times, plus he has a tendency to score with his head, which is always nice. We need a big defender as well.

I thought it was a pretty good game given the conditions, both teams made a good effort in playing through and keeping the ball on the deck. A surprisingly good match to watch and we can't be too unhappy with a draw in those conditions.
I actually thought we could have benefited by throwing more balls into the mixer from wide positions, a more direct approach playing the odds on the unpredictability of the ball inside the bogged down box, particularly the first half running at the sth end which was far worse. Gumps threw a fair few in and they pretty much all nearly paid off.
When we switched to 3-5-2 and subsequently had more room out wide, particularly McMaster out on the right, we started to throw them in more regularly but I thought Kwassie and Petrie were both poorly positioned a few times.
In any case I respect the way both teams tried to play the game, but I kind of wondered why we didn't do that from the start.
Unbelievable weather. Could have probably played the game down the shallow end of Spoon Bay just as easily. The crowd doesn't surprise me. Not too many families would have been keen to rug up the kiddies and drag them outside to sit in a windblow torrential downpoor like that.
