Just finished watching the coverage on Fox Sports...
Lowy made his speech, along with John O'Neill, BG Lee (Hyundai Chairman) and ASA head of operations Matt Carroll.
They then announced the 8 franchises, apparently a few clubs are yet to have logos so no real details of the clubs were discussed.
Each team then got a chance to say aomething about the league and their bid, we were represented by Ian Kiernan.
Foxsports then announced some details of their partnership. At least 2 live games a week, importantly, no games will be sheduled to play at the same time...
Did anyone else get a chance to see it, if so, what are your thoughts. If not then I'm sure Toyota World Sports will have extensive coverage on SBS tonight.

Just got from the launch now.
Was a very professional affair and things seemed to run smoothly.
Had nice long chats with the directors and new CEO Lyall Gorman.
They are keen as hell to make it a very grassroots sort of club and not go down the Newcastle United path.
They are still not definite on the name Mariners and will be doing more research in the area, and the logo will definitely not be the new logo.
Rumours I heard from others:
- Seimens will be the major sponsor of the Mariners - They already have about 40 other sponsors lined up - Their marquee player might be Simon Collossimo - Post match functions will be at Iguana Joes
All rumours, so don't shoot me if they are not correct.

That would be quite ironic and amusing, actually. The Seamen's [sic] Mariners. MarinerMick, did you manage to gain any info or insight on expected timelines for the further unrolling of any information or events etc?

All sounds very encouraging. Was there any mention as to what the club colours would be?

Just a guess on the colour front, probably some combination of the blue and yellow (being traditional cc colours)

I hope you mentioned the Forum and groundswell of interest in setting up a 'Rowdies-style' vocal supporters group. ;D Interesting to hear that. I assumed the logo and name were locked in. The scum (Uknighted) have announced as part of the launch that their name is to change to the Newcastle Uknighted Jets. Homage to the RAAF base? Or a suspicious Rugby League connection, eg. Newtown Jets? The former I suspect. What was interesting was the on air performance of Con Constantine. While all the other CEOs came across and articulate and solid businessmen, Constantine came across as a shifty user car salesman. The body language was dreadful. Especially how he avoided eye contact and shifted in his seat when asked what role Terry Venables was to play in the Club. The answer: "Whatever he wants" was hardly a professional response. That settles the Rowdies drinking venue question then! ;D

Now why doesn't that surprise me with the Con, well and truly screwed the Breakers and couldn't lie straight in bed

I was please that the people I work with - Union and League types - thought that CCM getting in the league was good for the Coast. They even started planning work functions that could end with watching CCM play!
Today has been great for me. Can't believe that I finally have a team - been too long since the trips up to Birmingham Gardens.
PS Jets? FFS!

As a former Spirit supporter great to see a team represent the CC/Northern Sydney region. Hopefully the powers that be can work on links with the associations in Northern Sydney as well the CC Kick off can't come soon enough for the A-League and hopefully a first up butchering of Sydney Olympic err Sydney FC Edit: Watching sports tonight and a story on the A-League, they had a interview with Sydney FC Chairman Walter Bungo, saying he hoped all of Sydney would get behind them..well hate to burst his bubble, but in my case I wouldn't support them even if hell froze over

I think there are a few ex Spirit supporters like myself who will support this far Northern Sydney team. Doesn't the Central Coast stretch from North Head to Nobby's? Get rid of the Mariners name (horrible).

Lyall Gorman (Mariners CEO) and Ian Kiernan said that they won't rush into a launch. Lyall said they will be doing more market research that the ASA has offerred to them to further investigate the market, branding, etc It seems to me that maybe the Mariners name and colours are not set in concrete. Lyall said they will probably take up an invitation from Adelaide United to play in a six team tournament in Adelaide in February involving four Australian teams and two Japanese teams.

To the Spirit people that will support the CC: this is not a critcism, just a question, but why wont you support Sydney FC? Geographically closer to Gosfrod than SFS?

Well for me I would be closer to Gosford than the SFS, also I just can't help but feel Sydney FC is just a Sydney Olympic FC trojan horse, plus the retention of Lawrie,Ian and Alex to be involved with the CC franchise

It was near run thing .... if Sydney FC bid had gone differently I may have gone with Sydney. I live in Epping (Hornsby Shire). Reasons for Central Coast: 1. I'm a ex Newcastle Breakers Rowdie (still carry the membership card on me proudly) and many of the Rowdies have committed to Central Coast. Also later a Spirit supporter - some of us - from the Coast and elsewhere - are also linking! 2. I have supported to some degree Coasties/Central Coast United in the NSW Premier League - I have no local side in that league (but follow Ryde City fiercely in the NSW winter state league) 3. I can catch the express train to Gosford - overall trip about the same as to SFS. Driving is still good although petrol costs more but traffic less. Easier getting home either way from Gosford. Used to driving to Breakers so this is nothing! 4. I like to support those that seem genuine about their football - encouraged by the FC name, and Lawrie McKinna and Alex Tobin signings 5. As a media writer for BOTN I will be going to Central Coast as a fan usually - not confident of getting anyone to go to SFS - I will have to do that a lot myself probably) 6. Good chance of a balanced fan base Reasons against Sydney FC: 1. Inner city and eastern suburbs w.ankers 2. I was against the Soccer NSW bid - isn't Central Coast or Wollongong (in contention at one stage) also part of Soccer NSW? 3. Playing at Aussie (SFS) rather than Parramatta/Concord/Homebush 4. Arrogance 5. No way can Sydney FC represent all the city - no reason why Hornsby Shire couldn't be seen as more the Mariners area - esp. for families

Newtown Jets? ... Clearly a clever marketing plot to get ex-pat New Yorkers living in the Newcastle area, and who are not NY Giants supporters, to back the club. The next stage in this fiendishly clever marketing ploy will be a sister-club relationship with J-League second division club Yokohama FC, to get all the Novacastrian residents who are Yokahama ex-pats.

Will the club have membership? ie season ticket holders etc. I work with guys that still pay for their season tickets for Celtic. Basically to say that I've been a member since year dot. I feel that this competition will be the success fotball has been looking for and I want to show all those that jump in in years to come that there were people watching this great game for a long time! I was a member of Apia for many years before that died a painful death.
