Just raed this on TWG forum...posted by Johnzag:
"Was just tinkering with figures and incomes for players with the small salary cap 5 U21 players on up to $45,000 each 5 21-25 players on up to $75,000 each 9 25-32 players on up to $100,000 each 1 marquee player on whatever the club can afford. Total of 20 players under a salary cap of 1.5 million (minus marquee player)"
Not a bad way of looking at it!
But...
Youth must be a policy at the club so CCM could have 5 25-32 y/o players and pay the 21-25 players a bit more thus encouraging those in the lower Euro leagues to come home.

I agree with you that the club must develop young players, that is why the have Tobin on staff to look after the youth development. The down side is that you wont get many back from Euro on that kind of money..... It is far better to develop home-base players and sign up the occasional guest player and a regular good marqee player.

The cost of living is very high in Europe - particulalrly London and Scandanavia. Any wages earned there would be the equivalent of half of the wages earned here, as well as the lifestyle benefits, and being closer to family

People are saying that the younger players in some of the more modest leagues in Europe would be happy to come home as we can match their salaries...
But the thing is, these players are trying to get looked at and picked up by one of the big clubs in the big leagues, which simply wont happen in the formative years at least, in the A-League.

Of course, the season starts in the European close season, and is over in February, so there is always the possibility of working out a loan deal to get a player playing time and then bring them back to Europe as the season is getting longer and niggling injuries are piling up.

It will be interesting to see if that is possible. The squads are only suppsed to be 20 man, would a loan count as one of those 20 and would another player be able to come in mid-season when the loan player heads back to Europe. Interesting....

I'm not too sure about the FIFA transfer rules concerning players on loan. but i think the club have to comply with FIFA regs and only transfer the players during the transfer window i.e. Jan & July. Anyone got info on that?

I think that transfer window rules don't apply to loans - Bruce will know...

They do in the top division of each league, Chelsea were looking at taking back Carlton Cole after the Mutu incident, but will have to wait until Jan... That's only because Chelsea put a 'recall' clause in his contract that states they have the option of recalling Cole in January...

That be so, but the point is they couldn't get him back before then (what the agreement there is between the clubs).
