Fark i dunno how but we need to make something happen this week What sort of squad are we lookin at this week people comin back people suspended its going to be another significally changed line up. Which may well be just what the dr ordered or could continue our little slump.According to what people were saying today we are with out jedi vidmar and heff but apparently wilko/stringers/kwaz/browny are back any confirmed news on those situations going off that i may well be wrong but we'll look a lil something like this: ---------------------------Danny------------- stringers -----wilko-boogs---- browny owens------hutch------tommy p------kwazzy ----------------------aloisi-----------sasho simons/porter/gumps/trott maybe porter at the backs where we all know he doesn't belong or do we throw clarky into the mix? ?? Very concerned bout next 4weeks Melbourne's not exsactly running hot tho with a dominent spanking by adelaide and scum(they were helped by the ref) Either a Scrappy sloppy 1nil either way game or a another goal fest 3-2 4-2 3-1 just got no idea which way tho.

the next 2 games against melbourne and adelaide are probably the most important games of the season so far. A win in both of them could see us extend a lead out to a decent margin points whereas a loss in both of them would see us in a position where we would be fighting for 4th on the ladder. We need to win at home because I dont think we can go to newcastle, adelaide, queensland or perth and expect to get wins.
The suspensions next week arent going to be good especially heff and jedis ones. It is good to see many returns from injury as well and i hope that will boost us especially defensively with Wilko returning. We need to sign a specialist right back if possible on a short term deal perhaps as a cover for Nik Mrdja if he has played his final game this season, because we will possibly get eaten alive in that area of pitch without one. Until then Id select the following lineup:
----------------------------Danny Porter-------Boogaard----Wilkinson----Brown Owens------Hutchinson--Pondeljak----Kwasnik ----------------Petrovski----Aloisi Bench: Trott, O Grady, Gumprecht, Simon
It is crunch time and the entire team are going to have to lift their game and the Mariners season basically depends on turning bluetongue into a fortress for the remaining games of the regular season

We _have_ to adopt a Champions League style philosophy, starting next week. Win at home, draw away, and pinch the occasional away win. We CANNOT afford to lose another game at home, simple. And quite frankly, during that run coming up where we have 4 away games with that one home game in the middle - one, possibly even two of those away games is going to have to be wins, because I don't think that everyone is going to keep drawing with each other anymore.
No easy games from here on in - even Perth away we're going to have be ultra wary.

Why you blokes leaving Heff out
My team
Danny
Jedi Wilko Boogs Heff
Owens Hutch Tommy Kwas
Aloisi Sasho
Subs Goals Trott Back Brownie & Porter maybe Clarky if fit Mid Grump & Porter Front Matty S
Agree with serious14 no easy games and with Aloisi in the side and leading for most of the season teams will lift against us.

Heff was just about due for another kick up the bum by starting on the bench...the penalty he gave away was just silly and his delivery has been disappointing...don't know whats up with him.
Losing Jedi hurts but makes our midfield more attacking with Hutch dropping back and Tommy in the middle.
This is good because I felt that against Sydney Hutch had the job of picking up the ball and directing our traffic but we never really changed the tempo of the game or moved the ball into dangerous areas. This is more Tommy's go and he can do this much better from the middle.
Gumps comes under a bit of criticism too, he is still doing a job but unfortunately looks less and less explosive/dynamic as time goes on.
I would have the same linup as skillbeck.
Depending how Wilko and Boogs go against Archie and Allsopp, we may or may not see Viddie come back into the middle after his suspension so that will be one of the big outcomes from this game.
Melbourne have been very poor and don't really know what they are trying to do out there...hopefully we can bang some goals in and get something out of this game. The visit of Adelaide the next Saturday is a bigger threat but we should have a pretty large squad again by that game and hopefully we can get back on track from there.

Yeah I agree - my lineup would be like this
----------------------------Danny Porter-------Boogaard----Wilkinson----Brown Owens------Hutchinson--Pondeljak----Kwasnik ----------------Petrovski----Aloisi Bench: Trott, O Grady, Gumprecht, Simon
If Boogs and Wilko can contain Archie and Allsopp I really feel confient we can get 3 points out of this game...............Kwas and Brown have a week to get back to full fitness and as long as they are good to go even without Heff and Jedi I think it's a pretty strong lineup.

I posted this on the Sydney thread before I read the new Melbourne thread. I should have posted it here instead. Sorry about that.
Well we have got just 4 points out of the last 15 on offer. Losses to Adelaide, Roar and now Sydney. Draw against Scum and a win against Wellington. Put simply we are struggling badly at the moment and Lawrie needs to turn things around very quickly.
At the moment we are not playing well enough to make the four, let alone win the championship. I honestly believe we'll make the four but we now require everyone to step up and lift immensely.
The first four or five games with the exception of the Roar game up there we were in total control maintaining possession which allowed us to dictate play. We're not doing that anymore. We're not controlling possession and conceding silly goals. We're turning the ball over far too easily in midfield because of impatience trying to find a killer pass. I'd like to see much more composed in midfield and be patient with good build up play to in and around the box.
If we give John and Sash the service, they will score, simple as that.
I thought before the Sydney game that the next three weeks would be the litmus test for the season. Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. If we can get results in the next two games, we are in very good shape. If we don't, it could be very difficult from here on in.
I think we've reached the point in our season, where the next two games could be make or break. The turning point, for better or worse. I believe we'll get results at home in the next two, but bloody hell, we need to improve a lot.

Corret me if I'm wrong, but isn't it 4 yellow cards and the player is suspended? If so then Jedi's not getting suspended, he's only on 3 yellows at the moment.

While Hutchi is doing a good job holding the ball, he is not the playmaker we need in the AM role. Unfortunately by the time he makes up his mind where to distribute the ball the opposition have closed the options. I hope Tommy can fill this role and build an understanding with Aloisi, I saw glimpses of this on Sunday. If Hutch can fill the DM position, which I think he can, we could be laughing.

totally agree Ursus, I thought Hutch held up play a bit on sunday just a few secs too long very time, he's a holding mid, not an attacking one any more - what we wanted of Spencer last year but never got (even the goals were spencer-esque), but he aint a playmaker. DM will do him nicely. Aloisi looked good in the air and in holding up the ball when he could, but apart from Tommy P, who else have we got to distribute from the middle?
edit: What about Owens and tommy P in the middle, brown and kwasnik out wide?

well we're paying the price for some poor discipline this week with absentees AGAIN, when will Lawrie have a full strength squad to pick from... very very frustrating. Im with DJ re: lineup ----------------------------Danny Porter-------Boogaard----Wilkinson----Brown Owens------Hutchinson--Pondeljak----Kwasnik ----------------Petrovski----Aloisi Bench: Trott, O Grady, Gumprecht, Simon Kwas and Owens to use their pace down the flanks and hopefully give the strikers better support. However im not as optimistic, i think Melbourne like Sydney are due a big performance after 2 straight losses and we have our own problems, i think we will go down this week

I'm a bit worried about Porter at right back. Until he got red carded he was shown up for speed by Zullo. I know Zullo is quick but Archie isn't slow either. I think he is better suited to the midfield.
Maybe O'Grady and Boogs in the middle with Wilko at RB?

With that news then maybe ----------------------------Danny Wilko-------Boogaard---------Jedi--------Viddy Owens------Hutchinson--Pondeljak----Kwasnik ----------------Petrovski----Aloisi Trott, O'Grady/Porter/Brown , Gumps, Simon IMO Brown instead of Vidmar at left back. I get the feeling that Vidmar isn't up to playing as a fullback these days
