Melbourne Herald Sun (if you can believe them) say that the seven Australian clubs in the A-League will play a lightning knockout tournament -- most probably in Gosford -- over a 10-day period with the winner representing Oceania in the World Club Championship, and collecting $US1 million in appearance money from FIFA.
[Good for us! - shame I'll be in South Australia in May)
Perth Glory, as the last champion of the NSL, will be given a bye into the semis. For the other six -- Victory, Sydney FC, Central Coast Mariners, Newcastle United, Adelaide United, and Queensland Lions -- it will be their first official outings since admission to the A-League.
A-League head of football operations Matt Carroll also revealed on the weekend that all eight clubs will be kitted out by the league's new apparel sponsor, Reebok.
THE Victorian Soccer Federation has registered the name Football Federation of Victoria and is likely to call for a name change at its annual general meeting this month.
The Australian Soccer Association is similarly changing to the Football Federation of Australia, and Soccer NSW announced on the weekend it wants to become Football NSW.

There has also been reports that the qualifiers may be held in Newcastle.
It won't really make much of a difference, I will be attending wherever it is held.

If mariners get a half decent squad with McKinna in charge, they stand a good chance to qualify....
what you say?

They may be looking at playing the qualifiers in Sydney / Gosford / Newcastle as this will give fans of all 3 clubs the chance to attend. We Central Coast Mariners are really the only club who has two local derby's Vs Sydney, Vs Newcastle, how good is that......

I heard this story in Perth paper "The West Australian" and it is great to see my team Perth Glory get a bye into the Semi's as being the Champs of the NSL last season There was also rumours in the same article in the West that the tournamnet will be held in Perth although i wont believe it until i see it because the ASA have done it to the perth public many of times Should be a great tournament though

However, I think they are thinking that over the period of the tournment they will get bigger crowds on the Coast with the Newcastle and Sydney football public not too far away

Unless Perth are playing, you couldn't expect big crowds in Perth....

I see your point that having it on the East Coast would probably produce big crowds but Perth deserve it and i am sure that if there were games that did not involve the Glory that we would still see reasonable teams no matter who was playing
