The three notable omissions are Elrich, Lubo and Holman.
Kennedy and Milligan are defintely the two smokeys.

Let's hope Aloisi and Viduka don't get injured because we look a little light and inexperienced in the strikers department.

Aloisi or Viduka injured = big trouble Personaly wouldnt have picked Covic, I would have picked Brad Jones from Boro. Not to sure on Milligan either, he didnt play much last season, hhmmmm.

Brad Jones wouldn't have helped things with his dummy spit. The other omission is Joel Griffiths who played against Jamaica and was in the squad for the Uruguay games.

Dummy spit or not, the kid had a good point. He has not even had the slightest look in for a spot, yet he is a great up and coming keeper. Who will Australia look at for the next world cup??? Well, probably not him now, cos he will tell them to stick it. Hopefully Danny is in Europe by then and he gets a look in, and not looked over by the aging Schwarzer or Kalac.

Personaly wouldnt have picked Covic, I would have picked Brad Jones from Boro. I would have gone John Filan from Wigan. Though he had a VERY, VERY big dummy spit about 10 years ago and perhaps there are some long memories around College street.

They have to look to the future so Jones or Vuka should have been the other pick to give them valuable world cup experience. I wonder how close Vuka was in the calculations?

mick has summed up the omissions and smokeys well, also note that scott mcdonald isnt there once again. josh kennedy must be doing good things.
i think milligan is there as a bit of a token sfc player to be honest, looking at their whole seasons you would have to pick heff or even the consistent wilko over him. he's a bit in the lucas neill mould though and they would be looking at a back up player for every position (chippers and laza = no heff) so it's probably fair.
if the v-bomber or aloisi get injured we are indeed screwed! even aloisi wouldnt really be able to lead the line in the formation we play. thompson is certainly only a support type player and from the little i know i think kennedy is more of a deeper lying striker.
i wouldnt hesitate in putting cahill as the target man for his aerial ability and making space for a skoko in the midfield.
Brad Jones can piss off after his dummy spit. He's not a once in a generation talent that we cant do without, and he is going to threaten to abandon australia because he hasn't been selected as one of the best 3 keepers of our nationality when he's had what, 10 first grade games? and he hasn't even done well imo. we dont need him.

Jones has hardly played a game. It is hard to see a young player being picked, off 2 games a season. Had he been playing regurlarly i would guess he may be there.
Milligan i dont get. I cant say he really impressed me this season.
But good job Meggsi.
Apparently he flies out within a week to sign the contract.

I think its a little worse than Englands problems. They have HEAPS of quality strikers, in the premier league and elsewhere, where as we pretty much have nobody. England are by no means f***ed IMO.

I cant say he really impressed me this season. Jones would have only been one of four or five 3rd choice keepers - only one can go! Filan would have been an experienced backup. I really don't know about Covic, but even my bias can't stop me saying Bolton has been unlucky. As for Milligan, most of you haven't seen the best of him. He had a poor U20 cup, then injured most of last season. The potential just oozes out of him, and in his Spirit and Blacktown days you could tell he would go a long way! And I will add my 'well done Meggsi' to all the others. I hope he gets game time - he will do us all proud! Striking department is looking shaky - hope Kennedy is a find. (Nurnberg must he hoping that Meggsi and Kennedy are finds!)

Great job Meggsi! Happy for Milligan to get a run too. Was pretty good in the few games he played late in the season

IMO, Kisnorbo should have been picked in front of Milligan

Jones can f*** off, I'd enjoy France or England playing with a Socceroos reject. That's an appauling attitude 'give me a free ticket to Germany or I'll defect', I can see England & France rushing to grab him now, 5th choice Australian keeper. Think there are better then Milligan, FFA Chairman may have had something to do with it

Looks from the words from arnie, that Guus saw him at the U/20 tornament, and was impressed, and has been folowwing his progress. Id say Guus saw something he really liked, and wants to be the man who made him a socceroo. Guus is a pretty good judge, so i will back that.

agree with comments made on the striking talent, if viduka is on form we'll be ok, but he does seem to have those off days, still i believe we're going to go well

given that the third england keeper picked was from a club not in the top flight (robert green of norwich) and one of those ahead of him was david 'calamity' james, i think jones could definitely be in the running for the three lions' squad somewhere down the track.
and as for france, two words sum up why i think he'd have a chance - fabien barthez. as long as they keep picking that muppet, he's got to be in with a shot.
