Newcastle Jets have confirmed their interest in former Liverpool and Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore. The Jets are keen to sign Collymore to a four-match guest stint, with the view to a permanent deal for this season.
Jets director of football Remo Nogarotto told the Daily Telegraph: "The club is interested in Stan Collymore and we're expecting to hear within three days or so whether a deal will go through.
"We know he hasn't played for a while and we'd like him to come out in the first week of October to assess his fitness before his first match in the middle of the month.
"If this happens, the prospect of him and (Jets Colombian sensation) Milton Rodriguez being partnered together would be mouth-watering not just for the club but for the A-League."
Collymore visited Australia last year and has been building his TV production company since leaving football.

Dwight Yorke had a reputation for disorderly behaviour when he arrived to play for Sydney FC, however he turned out to be one of the greatest ambassadors Australian football has ever had. Collymore has plenty of talent give him another chance and we will see how he responds.

Big difference between Collymore and Yorke IMO Yorke had european experience and still showed a lot of ambition, Stan couldn't give a shit throughout his career and stopped playing ages ago! I remember when he bashed Ulrica Johnson - he was f***ing slated! I never liked him - f***ing arrogant c**t! I would hate him even if linked to the Mariners!

Yep, and it doesn't look like the FFA would allow it, all guest & marquee players mmust be approved by the FFA and it sounds like they won't allow Collymore.

Stan's man says Colly-no-more By Guy Hand September 19, 2006 NEWCASTLE Jets' audacious bid to bring ex-England striker Stan Collymore to the A-League appears destined to fail, with his agent pouring cold water on any move to Australia.
Jets director of football Remo Nogarotto said overnight the club had spoken to Collymore's management about bringing the ex-Liverpool striker to Newcastle for a four-week guest stint.
But tonight Collymore's agent, Simon Kennedy, said playing in Australia was "not at the forefront of our minds".
Instead if the troubled striker was to return to football, it would more than likely be in England, and preferably at a top-level club.
"We've had interest from Australia but it's not at the forefront of our mind," Kennedy told the BBC.
"In the last year, we've had offers from a (English) Premiership side and five Championship clubs - but it must be right.
"He is fit, free and only 35. He is not closed to the idea of football - if the right offer came along."
Complicating the issue further is the fact Collymore had not played top-level football for five years, since an ill-fated stint with Spanish club Real Oviedo ended with him walking out after just five weeks.
He has now turned his hand to acting, last seen playing a small part in Basic Instinct 2 alongside Sharon Stone.
Collymore has become infamous for his colourful off-field deeds.
They include punching his television presenter ex-girlfriend Ulrika Jonsson, admitting to cruising public parks for sex, threatening to kill his estranged wife and also falling foul of Queensland police when fined $200 after an incident outside a Cairns nightclub last year.
Kennedy appears to be manoeuvring his charge towards a possible reunion with former Leicester City boss Martin O'Neill at English Premier League side Aston Villa.
Collymore played at Villa during the 1990s under former manager John Gregory.
"Stan is a busy boy but what he would really be interested in is Premiership football," Kennedy said.
"Stan considers Martin O'Neill, who he worked with at Leicester, to be the archetypal manager.
"He would love the opportunity to work for someone like Martin again."
Newcastle coach Nick Theodorakopoulos said Collymore would be welcome at the A-League club.
"I don't think anything that has happened in the off-field will affect his performance," Theodorakopoulos told Sydney radio station 2KY.
"If you go back to 1995, he set a (British) transfer record (moving from Nottingham Forest to Liverpool for $22 million), and I think that speaks volumes of his football ability.
"I can see there are a lot of negatives when it comes to certain things about Stan Collymore's off-the-park life.
"But at the same time, the positives and the skill factor and the happiness that they provide when people turn up on a Sunday afternoon to watch these people play certainly outshines a lot of the negative stuff."
who would wanna play for the jets anyway

What the f*** are they thinking up the road why do they need a convicted women basher to entice people to turn up to their games.Whether or not it comes off it shows their lack of foresight in the real reasoning behind a guest player.

I'm obviously biased on the topic [see the userbar below], but Collymore was a brilliant striker at the beginning of his career. The first year I got into English football, 1994-5, he scored loads of goals that helped Forest finish third in the Premiership. He scored about 50 goals for Forest in two seasons, and quite a few for Liverpool in the next couple of years. Doesn't sound like a player who "couldn't give a shit throughout his career"
He's had a very chequered off-field life, and I'm not going to defend some of the things he's done [beating up his girlfriend was reprehensible], but he has shown a lot of talent at stages in his career. Its really a hypothetical discussion given that it looks unlikely that he'll sign for the scum anyway, but if he was fit, and wanted to make a go of it, Collymore would be worth a look in the A-League. Pity it'll be for the scum if he comes out here

Remo is still showing that magic that he displayed for the NSW Libs isnt he??
Great branding, link your club to a wife beating pervert (I wont repeat his own admission on the board as kids read it).
Then he tells us that Dwight yorke had similar issues.........I know DY wasnt an angel but if someone lumped me in with a bloke like that I would be talking to my lawyer about it.
