Quote from Nick T from the HAL website.......
However, the Newcastle boss said it was also the responsibility of the club to breed a loyal bunch of travelling fans that will ultimately help make the A-League a success.
"The other issue is: our game will really come to life when we have 500 travelling fans going to away games - that is when we can say we are a sport that is here to stay long term, when we create major rivalries."
Its already happening Nick, just not for you guys

When is it happening?
I think he's talking about the league in general - how many times in the history of the HAL have there been 500+ fans go somewhere?
#1) We took 800 or to your place last year in the league #2) Grand final Day
And over 100 fans?
#1) The two occasions you came down here last year in the league (2) #2) First round this year #3) We took about100 to Melbourne this year #4) Adelaide away to Melbourne in Rnd 1 #5) By all accounts there 100 or so northerners in your place last week #6) Perth Glory's TOD to Suncorp last year #7) Your trip to Newcastle last yaer
That's a grand total of 11 games where there's been an away attendance over 100. Not much at all.

Plus 1000 we took to Sydney in round 18. Photographic evidence from the Cove end showed this clearly.

Only Sydney can claim to be true away travellers. They got great numbers in gosford last year and a really good effort in melbourne this year. Newsflash central coast you have only travelled well because of the finals series. When you can bring more then 300 supporters to a game in newcastle i will change my mind but then remember you guys also travelled poor to sydney in round 1? Newcastle jets fans have been the best in the derby matches so far because of the number we got to your ground even though we haven't won a match yet and im sure the people of newcastle were reluctant to pay their well-earned money to see our dream team take on the leagues worst. Your not the cove so stop thinking that you can take them on and leave them to battle with melbournes BWB. True fans never give up on there team and they sing non-stop even after the game. Mariner mick there was no-way you had 2-3000 fans in newcastle you would have been lucky to fill a bay. Which is prob just over 500 and we matched your efforts the next week anyway. As the old evil guy on the worldcup says "the facts speak for themselves" GO THE JETS (joga bonita)

And the Cove are concerned that a lot of their fans wont travel. A comment repeated by many of the ones I spoke to in the pub before Rd 1.
The point of the thread was to say that the only team that cant get 500 to a NSW away game is the Jest

I cannot believe that they are absolutely stoked about getting 200 to the Mariners game.
Heck, their number one football team was booted out by the Broncos the week before so there was no excuse.
We were disappointed about our round one numbers because of the local premier league finals affected numbers but these guys are creaming themselves over that piss-poor effort of away support.
Better than last time, but still piss-poor.

Better than last time, but still piss-poor. Yep and I noticed that half of them were not wearing Jest shirts or even other baby-shit colour stuff. A few guys walked into the Kendall bar before the game and the only way we could tell they were Jest fans was because one of them had a Jest scarf. Of course, once you got within a couple of meters you could also tell from the smell.

Are there other rivalries in the HAL that aren't between NSW teams? - as messy as it can sometimes be, it does add to the game somewhat.

We easily had enough people spread over 3 bays to comfortably fill one bay. And i cant believe i have to repeat this but you still haven't travelled well to newcastle for a game during the regular season. There were presentation nights for alot of the nbn and 2hd clubs and we get alot of our fans from there.

Dearest Chimi,
Yes, Sydney-Melbourne DO NOT like each other, especially since Fred tried to assassinate Mark Milligan. Also, Adelaide-Melbourne is a fierce rivalry.
Cheerio,

Everybody just hates melbourne don't they?
I remember a VERY interesting Sydney-Melbourne match last year, with Muscat up to his usual thuggish form.
I think that we have the best potential for a derby being so close to newcastle - as in, the best potential to have a large number of away supporters getting into it.

You have got to be kidding me if you think you got more fans down to EAS during the regular season then what we got on Saturday night. Im sure even alot of unbiased people on this forum would back me up on that statement. 60 marinators doesn't beat the squadron (not even close) ;D

Alot of useless banter if you ask me. We sent huge numbers to Newcastle for the semi, and bigger to sydney for the final, and would have been more if more tickets. Our away to sydney was not huge 1st up, but i would not call the squadrons presence any bigger having been to both games, and seeing both sets of fans from infront of them. A better job from the squadron, but hardly huge. Sydney does have the obvious population advantage that should really see them take up half of bluetongue when we play them. 10,000 season ticket holders, most should be willing to travel up the freeway. I am hoping and expecting a larger contingent of mariners fans to hit newcastle than we got to sydney, though do not expect the same size as the semi for obvious reasons. Yet when mariners fans travel, the are 99% in yellow. Squadron was probably 40-50% in babypoo. So honestly couldnt tell if half were even newcastle fans, since most were sitting, and not singing. More away fans from all teams will be great for the league.

Biggest away support...from the unbiased desk of Tiger (to my best knowledge)
This includes supporter groups and others fans in colours.
1. 10k to the Grand Final - Central Coast Mariners 2. 2-3k to the Newcastle semi final - Central Coast Mariners 3. 800-1k to Sydney, Rnd 18 HAL1 - Central Coast Mariners 3. 800-1k to Gosford, Rnd 11 HAL1 - Sydney FC 5. 500 to Gosford semi final - Newcastle Jets 6. 300 to Sydney, Rnd 1 HAL2 - Central Coast Mariners
100-200 - Squadron to Gosford last week, Cove to Newcastle last year, Marinators to Newcastle last year, more impressively Sydney to Melbourne, Adelaide to Melbourne and Perth to Brisbane according to Jaza previously in this thread.
Marinators also took 50 to Queensland in the last round of HAL1 and as many as Sydney took down to Adelaide in the finals, and we didn't know we'd be going there til a week before.
Given more opportunity, the Cove/Sydney FC is certain to claim some places on that top 5. Given a Grand Final here they could sell out Gosford on their own. I expect 2nd place may be under threat on Friday the 13th in Gosford although the Friday may hinder them a little.
But as it stands we certainly have no need to pretend we're the Cove.

At best we'd get 5th place on that list... At best. How on earth they scheduled it as the Friday night game is beyond me.
