Hey Guys, Just post as you guys still may be affected by this. Im not sure if your had the news up there, but rumor has it (published Newspaper articles) that this years spots will be going to Adelaide and Sydney. Now as much as this may sh*t me, its still not worth emailing about. However rumor also has it that the AFC will agree to the changes for the next ACL meaning the two teams eligable this year will be left with out a spot. The decision is going to be made on November 20.. so we want to get some fan feedback to the FFA and AFC before this date... trying at least get a fair go when it comes to it. So feel free to email them both on the below email. AFC: media@the-afc.com FFA: info@footballaustralia.com.au Article: www.theage.com.au/news/soccer...749358694.html

Gee that carrier pigeon sure is slow gettn the news out here to the sticks. Do all tards have to be quite so patronising??
Funnily enough we did know. We now have newpapers and wireless and that new fangled TV (I've never seen it but I once met a bloke who said he had)
According to the SMH on Monday (thats the paper that the Age copies its articles from) the FFA reckon their chances as 50/50 at best.
I think I preferred you guys when you were Australia's worst side. you havent actually won the A league yet and your whining about not getting a shot in the ACL is a tad premature.

Funnist post ive read in a while.... Very defensive aren't we... Anyway the reason i said "Unsure if yourve heard" Simply don't know what has been said in your papers, generally don't read the SMH or your local paper that often... so have no idea what has been said... Reason we are doing this now, is the decision is made on November 20... meaning we don't have the luxry of waiting to see if we win the premiership....

I don't think it really matters that much, sure, it's not ideal but it's not like this years premiers and champions get screwed, they just have to wait a year. We all knew this could be a possibility I don't see why we should bother kicking up a stink about it.

Actually you're wrong omni.
There is a possibility that Sydney and Adelaide will be entered into next years ACL because the draw is done this year and the AFC refuses to have 'A-League 1' and 'A-League 2' written on its draw.
That rule would be changed for the next ACL, allowing A-League version 3's top two teams into the 2008 ACL. This season's top two are left in limbo and never get a chance.
HOWEVER the FFA is clearly doing what they can to ensure fair play to A-League teams. What is emailing them going to do but piss them off and waste their time? And is the AFC going to balance their decision based on TIIOFL (the infinite influence of Frank Lowy) versus TIIOFL plus a few hundred (at best) emails from disgruntled A-League (or just MVFC) supporters?

The ACL is run from Mar - Nov each year, so it may be a perennial problem for the A-League clubs. Our Comp. would only finish a week or so before the first ACL match days of the next season, so do we press the FFA to pressure the AFC to allow us to nominate generically (Like A-League 1 & 2) or do we have reps drawn from the winners of previous season? As we've seen this season, a teams' form can change from season to season and if you have a hot team this season it would be preferable to play the ACL almost straight after winning a comp., rather than waiting 12 months. That aside, it's a terrific opportunity for our A-League sides to strive to win the silverware and the US$600,000.

On the subject of the ACL. Have you seen the names of some of the teams in the competition??
I cannot wait for the clash between "Central Coast Mariners v Thailand Tobacco Monopoly"

Why won't they ACL allow A-League 1 and A-League 2 on the draw? seems a pedantic I think.

When we were inducted into Asia, i was extremely excited about the prospects open to our clubs - namely the ACL. Now it just seems like this draw for next season is a massive cock up. Very disappointing really. I really hope the AFC make the right decision for Aus.
I think Adelaide will be hard done by to not get in - premiers last season, and for me, the most consistant team over versions 1 & 2.
Sydney have had a form slump for pretty much all of this season, and unless they can recover, do they really deserve to represent Australia?
Melbourne will be deserveably pissed off if they miss out on a spot next year. Their form says enough.
If Mariner's can make the final this year, probably facing Melbourne, win or lose, we will, by the FFA's justification make the ACL. They say they want the premiers, and the winner of the Grand Final to be in there, if it is the same team, then the other team in the grand final should go through. It sounds a bit wishy washy when put like that, but i think it's a decent possibility.
Another interesting point - How far on a plane is it from Adelaide or Melbourne, to say, Korea or China. Got to be atleast 8 or 9 hours? Teams are concerned about having to travel to Perth to play at the moment...

Whats the time difference between them and us?? Melbourne deserve a spot without a doubt. The second team will be the hard one to pick I think.

Can you really say we've been more consistant than Adelaide?
