im starting this thread to voice my disgust about the central coast leagues club lack of coverage of australian international matches as well as a lot of other soccer matches worth watching. my major concern is that on a saturday night, the same rugby league and rugby union games are both broadcast twice on all four of the tv's despite the fact that rugby union in particular is free to air with little delayed coverage. The only tv's where they broadcast soccer are either in thoroughfairs where people will be constantly walking and sometimes stop to have a conversation or they broadcast it on tv's behind one of the bars which doesnt help if theres a massive queue. The Australia v Uruguay match is the second time ive felt screwed over by this in recent months, so basically im asking people where would i make a complaint and who would be with me to back it up

Thats a shit go skilbeck. I phoned the CCLC to ask if it was being televised and they told me it was. As it turned out, I wasn't able to make it down there but not happy at the lack of respect by the CCLC for a national game that brought around 62000 people through the gates. I understand it not getting priority on the big screen, but there are plenty of other areas it could have been shown.
Obviously something that we have to work on I guess.
On that note, there is to be an anouncement regarding the Socceroos match being televised on July 8th (sunday) at 8.20pm. We are going to tie this in with a Marinator club meeting , 2007/2008 season launch junior membership drive, etc etc all on that night in the kendall. We MUST fill that place to show them that our game has support.

Crap, I'm going away on a conference the next day, but I'll make it, it's not a conference if you're not tired for the week.

To answer your question skilbeck, id contact Charles Friel at the club, or PM frielcclc on this forum, and advise of the situation, plus any names of staff or duty managers you know of that did not put the game on for you. It is 100% unacceptable to refuse to play a Socceroos match live for fans of the game, but to then quite happily take all your money for beer, pokies, food and membership on a match day.

Bear, I was down at the club saturday night, sitting in the sports bar at the new bar as you walk in from the foyer, all me and a few others got to see was the pre game and then the bar staff changed the plasma to the union, myself and another bloke indicated to the bar staff that the league and union was on 100% of the available screens now,I then got a mouthful of lip off some knights fans along the lines of football or "sucker" as they called it being crap sport anyhow, so i walked around to the Kendall to see if it was on there and the union was on as well, I couldnt find a duty manager after asking the door staff who I should see, so i pulled the pin and went home, when i tried to get updates from football australia, the website had crashed, so it was a crook night all around. This isnt the first time this has happened, you would think now that we are a sub section of the CCLC, they would have accomadated us by letting us use the Kendall or something, I beleive we need to broach this at the next marinators meeting

Yeah the best way to go. Contact Charles and ask for an explanation.

fair enough Mick, didnt think of that however, it is still worth putting on the agenda for the enxt general meeting so that something more structured can be arranged if the leagues club knows that there will be a group of people weatching they will make arrangements the leagues club also had a unusually large number of newcastle bogans there saturday night because of the game across the road

Yeah, but the main thing is that a club this size, with the amount of tv's it has, could not even show the game. It a joke in this day and age of football that this place didnt even have it on, anywhere. Its not something that should have to be raised, it should be a given.
Pisses me off thats all. Sorry.

. was not a happy evening at CCLC
. when i arrived the only place showing the football was behind the bar and to my disgust in the smoking section - i was not aware this was later changed as well
. i did manage to convince one of the managers to change a tv to the football but is was a small tv in a corridor - fantastic for viewing pleasure (and if i hadn't persisted it probably would not have been shown at all apparently)
. yes i can understand the league getting priority in a 'leagues club' but the popularity of the football is reflected in the attendance figures - i can't imagine them not showing the cricket in similar circumstances
. as it tunrs out there were quite a number of football fans asking if this was the only place to watch the football in the club and quite a number ended up sitting on the floor, in the corridor, to squint at a small screen as people continually walked past and/or stood in the way
. i suspect the priority given to the other codes may have had more to do with betting than anything else
. i also know there were a number that left the club without watching the game

wasn't that teeny little telly near the jukebox in the sports bar was it BG? we had to use that telly when the socceroos played singapore or china couple of months ago, and it took 10 minutes of asking security guys(who was very helpful by the way) to get the duty manager to put it on eventually.

. nah recky, it was under the stairs out the back near the eating area
. parking situation was also an embarrassment, nothing to indicate the parking was full other than a full carpark, so by the time you reached the dead end on the roof you had a string of cars banked up behind you and couldn't reverse to get out
. the staff at the door didn't seem to care when it was raised either

As was said before I am the one to get in touch with. Firstly this friendly was never marked for a main feature game, and any one that thinks that is because our game is lower on the list is wrong. When a game is marked you will see it from me on the Marinators section of this forum. On Saturday we had the Newcastle game live in the Stadium(this caused the car park fill). We never put 'full' up during these days because the parking is always fluid. This has been done for years before Mariners. Some times you can get a spot some time you can't. It also meant there was a few thousand NRL who headed over after the game, as Saturday night has always been the big screen night NRL, that was never going to change. We also had the RU NZ v Fr live at 5.30 which meant a lot of NZ supporters in the Club. This was shown on big TV in All Stars and Bakers Street Plasma. It was followed by the AUS v WLS RU trophy match(not a friendly) At 7.30pm. Shown at same time as the Cowboys v Sharks. Both games had started before ours. The DMs tried to ask different areas if they could swap channels, but understandably the people watching would not let them interrupt a game they were watching. We had people sitting on the carpets to watch that game in dining area. So these with kids could not see football even there. We put our game on 5 TVs throughout the Club where they could. This is acceptable as far as I am concerned. I have also checked other bars in Gosford over half did not show the game at all. I will let you know when we are covering Internationals fully in Club. The next one is the 8thJuly Asian qualifier. It will be a private function like we hold for the Mariners away game. So families are welcome. Can you find another place that gives you that? And the end of the day with a big game at the Stadium how you can please every one is a big ask. Again I stress it had nothing to what is being put on this format on codes. Once again we are not a football leagues, but a League of Clubs. But there are some things people have been doing for years, and thins take time to make a three year old game a national number 1, and i don't mean just here at the Club. In fact what football supporters have got from CCLC over the last 3years please find elsewhere and let me know and I'll go there. I feel no shame over last Saturday and at this stage would agree with what the management did. Thanks Charles

I suppose we have some work to do then in educating the club that more people were interested in watching the uruguay game (61,000 people) than the rugby (41000 people).

From what I have read, correct me if I am wrong, recky 081 was sitting somewhere watching the pre game talk up for Aus VS Uruguay, where the commentators discuss whos playing in what position ect, and then the bar staff changed the channel, as recky 081 was watching. So obviously, there was no-one else sitting at the same spot trying to watch another code. Sorry if I sound stupid, but that dose not sound very professional to me.

charles: . i know the club (and specifically yourself) has(have) done a lot for football supporters over the last couple of years - was just a bit dissapointed that is all
. i am not sure how many tvs were showing the game but we could only find the one following my request and judging from the number of requests coming from other patrons and that staff were generally unaware i am suprised you mentioned so many screens
. i am sure in the past there has been a sign up on the parking and/or staff at the driveway providing advice/directions, again disappointed that is all - it was getting dangerous in the carpark
. i was not aware of the featured game issue but suppose i have become accustomed to turning up and seeing the game that matters the most
. i can only imagine how difficult it is to try and satisfy everybody just seemed there was NO thought given to the football
. but thanks again for your work and for responding on the forum
. oh and the game is more than 3 years old

Bear, you read right, myself, my brother in law, and probably 6 or 7 others were watching the pre-game, all i'm wondering is couldnt the bar staff at least checked, given that i and others had socceroo jerseys on, if we were watching or not.
