We are pleased to announce that the players and officials from BOTH clubs have been cordially invited to join us to watch the Socceroos-Samurai Blue game at the Royal Hotel, Orange from 7.30pm onwards this Saturday Night. That mean we've got to sit drinking with ex Socceroo coach cranky Frankie? Seriously, should be a great night (shame I have to drive early Sunday morning) and the Royal should make enough to renovate the front bar! I know I'm nuts but I'd drop Grella and play Valeri. Move to 4-4-2, drop Culina or Wilkshire and bring in Neill at right back. Leave Spike and Meggsi in the centre of defence. Give Bresc 25 mins to run some legs off the Japan mids and bring in Cahill. Bring on Kewell for Aloisi after half-time.

We are coming home. Why the hell did we screw the first 2 penalties? Japan deserved to win.

Still can't figure out how that was a red card to Vinnie. The same thing happened to me today and i didn't get a free. Carneys yellow wasn't a dive. I'm just surprised no one fainted or collapsed 120 minutes in that heat/humidity is incredible.
With lucas's penalty you always knew where he was going to shoot it, he has done the same thing in every penalty ever.

Referee can be blamed, heat can be blamed, and they had some effect, but we were worse. Why we conceeded straight after scoring is ridicolous too. Arnold sucked as well - god knows why he put Carle on. At least there's always the Mariners to look forward to I'm going to bed.

I can see WHY Grella's was a red - but the fact that he didn't see the player coming should have made the difference. So I don't think it deserved a red. I thought Kewell and Carney both took dives, BUT the Japanese player involved with Carney's challenge came in with a BLATANT late challenge - had Carney stayed on his feet the Japanese player probably would've been cautioned. Heck, considering Carney had already lost the ball he should've gotten the free kick too. Kinda makes it difficult for him when he takes a dive though. Still, that's my opinion on it.
I missed the Thailand match, but that was much better than our first 2 performances. Our penalites were weak - Kewell tried to drill it, he should know better than that. I don't really know why Neill took a penalty...
I look at it this way - after our first two matches we didn't deserve to get to the final.
Definitely time to get rid of Arnold though.

Did anyone notice the camera shot of Arnold walking up the tunnel immediately following the the last penalty shot was taken? Bad form to not so much as walk onto the field to see your players after a 120 mins of game time & shoot out to end their Asian Cup.

Stop ragging on Carle, he did better than about 18 others in the squad...... I don't give a flying f*** what club a player plays for, when they have the green and gold of Australia on, all that shit goes out the window. I will happily admit that Milligan, Carney and Carle owned on that pitch tonight, and I'm proud to call them Socceroo's.
As for the match itself......................... f*** that. That hurt.
That is all.
P.S. The first half was awesome - why can't those blokes play like that all the time?? P.P.S. Kewell, Cahill, Carney, Carle - what a midfield.
(I would hop on the bandwagon and say 'Arnold out', but I don't agree - he's gonna get fired soon enough though so it doesn't really matter)

Iraq is currently up 2-0 against Vietnam......... I'm off to the Iran/Korea quarter in KL tomorrow night, secretly wanting Iran to win so I can have the privilege (HA!!!) of witnessing an Iraq vs. Iran semi-final on Wednesday night, in a predominantly Muslim city.
Dirka dirka, mohammed jihad anyone??

I'am with you serious. Personnally i think Carle is a very good player and iam not going to dump sh#t on the guy because he played for Newcastle.
I think the asian cup has been a learning experience and one important thing has been revealed. Carney, Milligan and Beachamp are all up to the task of wearing the green and gold for australia. Ok, Milligans clearance wasnt great which led to Japans goal, but hes young and will learn from the experience.
I think the boys defensive shape was very good tonight. When reduced to 10 men, they sat back and absorbed the presure and conserved what little fuel was in the tank by only doing the running that had to be done. I wasnt pretty, but i dont think the game would of made the distance to penalties (which i think was the plan) if we went out there and tried to play football against japan with 10 men.

I guess some people just can't see past their club colours no matter what. Arnold sucked as well - god knows why he put Carle on. Who would you suggest come on then?

With Grella, a midfielder getting sent off, and with Australia under the pump the way we were, it was a reasonable decision for Carle or Perhaps Valeri to come on for Aloisi a striker.
It would seem a logical substitution to me.
