Exclusive: Turkish reports suggest Nick Carle is unhappy at his Super League club Genclerbirligi with the Aussie star a possible chance to move during the January transfer window.
According to Turkish news reports, Carle's club coach Bulent Korkmaz won't stand in Carle's way if he doesn't want to stay at the struggling Ankara-based side.
“When asked about the possible departure of midfielder Nick Carle, the Gençlerbirligi coach voiced his satisfaction with the Aussie and said Carle's contract is still in effect, but that he wouldn't force any player to stay if they wish to leave,” reported Turkish Daily News overnight.
Betting website The Daily Punt also reported that Carle was unhappy in the troubled club and no longer wants to play there.
Last night (Friday), Genclerbirligi enjoyed a precious 2-1 win over mid-table Trabzonspor, lifting them to fourth bottom in the 18-team league and one spot out of the drop-zone.
Interestingly, Carle was not listed on the teamsheet for last night's game, although it's not clear if he was injured or left out for other reasons.
According to sources in Sydney, Carle has been played out of position at the club since Korkmaz, 37, arrived in the hotseat, but has impressed most observers with his vision and technical ability.
Genclerbirligi is one of the Turkish Super League's smaller outfits and is known as a club which develops players for on-sale later.
Selling Carle is not out of the question but it would depend on the offer and how badly Carle - who turned 26 last week - wants to exit the club.
One obvious solution would be to return to the A-League as a marquee status player.
Given the Socceroos will largely be picked from the A-League for many of their 2008 World Cup qualifiers, this may help the country and the player.
As for potential clubs, there'd be no shortage of takers. For instance, since the departure of Fred, Melbourne Victory have lacked a natural playmaker in behind Archie Thompson and Danny Allsopp.
And with an Asian Champions League campaign beginning in March, 2008, someone like a Carle would be ideal to lift last year's champions out of their current slump and keep him ticking over for the Socceroos.
