Yep, but the nickname has the S___ word nevertheless ...the word was historically an abreviation for 'association football' anyway. Got kinda confusing for some ... the first Association I ever played in, PCSFA (Protestant Churches Soccer Football Association) was really Protestant Churches Association Football Football Association

Exactly it's only a nickname like the wallabies for rugby!
I was brought up on the game being known as football (which it is), I have always found it a bit odd how people refer to rugby league as football when the national competition is the NRL (national rugby league)

Our local NSW Div 1 team was Gladesville Ryde United Association Football Club. My son's local junior team here in Epping, formed in 1954, is Epping Eastwood Football Club, and the local Association formed in 1953 is the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association!

this may be controversial (it may not though...) but they're all football. 'foot' refers to playing on foot rather than horseback and all football codes (association, rugby union, rugby league, gaelic, american, canadian, australian) have their genesis in peasants' (rather than aristocrats') games. each code's rules came about through different groups deciding to formalise the rules for 'their' football a different way.
in any case, the codes are all games for everyone to enjoy, and i reckon that arguments over which is the purest form of football inevitably descend to silliness. that said, my favourite football happens to be the world's favourite too, and is the simplest and most beautiful code. i still love two of the other multitude of codes though...

Bearinator I'm really a fan - if that's your view you should fork out for anyone that can't afford to go then because clearly it's nothing to you.
It's only the greatest moment in Football in this country if we win - if we loose it's just another so close, yet so far.
OH and Dibo - 15 GOALS mate! WE'RE GOING TO SUBI!
