it has nothing to do with the club - our business i suggest a4 folded - less cumbersome and a hell of alot cheaper for paper i'll sponsor the other 500 sheets of paper and will photocopy them giving us 1000 for the first game Done. So aim for 1xA4 sheet, folded to make 4xA5 (half A4) pages. A compact little flyer. Can we copy in colour, or should we keep it b&w? b&w - no colour colour will lokk crap anyway unless it is professionally designed b&w conveys a touch of amateurism which we are

As it is aiming to get people to games - It should have details that help people who may be thinking of it only - what game, date/time - time finish, tickets, where to get them, tips on getting to ground (eg. x train from Woy Woy, allow x time at ticket windows etc.) We need people to hand them out - my daughter Kerensa's boyfriend Eric says he will hand some out at school - Brisbane Water high from next week

Distribution ideas? We need to hit the kids somehow IMO.

from fans to non-fans is the right idea to spread the word about the mariners, and also open up the marinators a bit.
something that would turn a potential newbie off would be the feeling that everyone knows all the songs and everything about the mariners (and the marinators for that matter) except you don't know anything.
the fanzine can complement the official club stuff (like the match programs) by offering "fan's perspective" material and things like new songs to sing- a page like "what are the marinators singing this week" might be a good idea, so that our "theme song" for the week is something that in effect is "taught" to everyone who gets the 'zine.
you have the words, you hear it through once or twice and you're off and away...
it'd sorta demystify the marinators and make us more accessible as well as providing another angle of "attachment" to the club.

b&w - no colour colour will lokk crap anyway unless it is professionally designed b&w conveys a touch of amateurism which we are OK. Rightio, just spoke to my layout guy, and he will do it no probs ...as long as I buy him a beer. He's not a high flying 'inventive' type of Graphic Designer, he is a long-time professional magazine layout artist, so we tell him what to do, and he will do it. He's gonna do it in both Quark and InDesign, and then PDF it and email it to print off, so we can put the pdf up on the websites too. If we can get together some stuff for him to start a mock-up, just basic concept, dummy data and pics, some type of name and cover idea (he can have a crack at doing up a logo) he'll do it in a matter of days, or even hours. Then we can tweak it and add the real content as we go. So as for content? Cover: Name (logo), cover date (as a month, whatever), cover lines describing what is inside and listing features. Page 2: - A type of 'mission statement' or editors/Marinators note. - Comp calendar listing. Specific list of all home games with times etc. - Comp table - Leading Goalscorer - Other stats? - As mentioned above; info about travel, parking, costs, attractions? What else? Page 3: Maybe 2 x half page player profiles, including a black and white mugshot of each? Page 4: Marinator profile for a bit of fun? Match previews or reviews? Interview? Might be better to put match shedules/calendars on the back page... Any ideas?

Have a bit that can be torn off as a free raffle ticket for a prize. Name:......... No.:............ That way they keep the magazine, or atleast that bit, and incentive to come to the game. Hand in the thing or buy a ticket before game and we'll draw it at half time.

It could be anything, a $50 gift voucher at HMV, Rebel Sports...beer! It's a good idea because it is a call to action to not only come to the games, but come to Bay 16.

yeah, I reckon it wouldn't be that hard to get local bussinessess to donate a prize if we're handing out 1000 zines with a "HMV voucher raffle", for example written on everyone. Does anyone know someone that would be up for a gift voucher donation?

A section tucked in somewhere should be about the Marinators, titled 'What the Marinators are up to this week" or something similar. It can have a little blurb that repeats each week just saying what the Marinators are.
This gives the correct impression that we're a notable entity but separate to the club. Some people I talk to dont understand the Marinators, they think we work for the club, or have other misconceptions.

Within it we could squeeze in as much as possible, some permanent, some updated; - Description of the Marinators - Chants - Website addys. - Promote Marinators T-shirts? - Pic of the month: from the last game, whatever - Marinator interview/Profile/column: I reckon this could be funny, entertaining or endearing if done right. - Cartoon? - Promote a prize or comp for each match

MM,
Doesn't UNU at Callaghan produce an award-winning weekly info-sheet that we could use as a template for this fanzine?
We produce a staff newsletter here that is double-sided A3 that folds up into 4 A4 pages. It's pretty easy to produce. So once the template is designed, it's just a matter of cut, paste or write.
