Hi all ;D if this has been suggested in another thread plz merge with this one if not here it goes.... Durring round 11 will be the year Anniversary of the passing of the great Johnny Warren - Nov 6th 2004 to be exact & on that weekend both the Melboune Victory's supporters group and Adelaide's supporters group, The Gate are going to make a banner to pay tribute to the great man. It would be great if we can get you guys to make one as welll (all carrying the same saying) so that this can be a trully national expression of grattitue to Johnny. here are the threads from both sites for more info.... www.melbournevictory.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6521 - it was their idea originally.... www.standunited.org/enews/index.php?showtopic=3462&st=0 - and we though it was a great one ;D Thoughts?

I like it one time for all the A-League fans to put everything aside and pay tribute to the great man.

I'd imagine clubs would be planning something anyway but it's a good move.

Fish, can we have our interchangeable banner to pay tribute to JW?
Black armbands sound like a nice touch

i think the only banner thats gonna pay homage to the greatest australian footballer of our time is the biggest dam thing we can make. something the whole stadium and cameras can read. no offense but i dont think the interchangeble one is gonna cut it. and if we can find someone talented enough to do a pic of him aswell.

Black armbands are compulsory. He was Mr Football in this country, in my opinion.
To quote the great Neil Young, "The King is dead but he's not forgotten". Johnny Warren, rest in peace.

Great Idea. I wasnt up to speed with Johnny Warren until recently, when our patron filled me in on the history. Few wouldve pushed so hard for the cause they feel passionate about it seems. Worldwide, let alone Australia. A hero.
Great quote, from a great man indeed Auburn (keep on rockin in the free world.....)

Top idea, maybe we could come up with a chant for the great man too. I can supply paint for the banner if needed.

I had the black armband comment but deleted it because I thought you all might think it was a bit much - pleased it's been taken on board.
One would imagine a minutes silence before all the games.

I love the idea of black armbands with a massive "you told us so" banner in yellow and blue

That NY quote is from Hey Hey, My My isn't it Auburn (or is it My My, Hey Hey) I actually reckon u should use a verse from that song as a chant/song both for Mr Warren and the Mariners in general. Sydney FC have Hey Jude as one of their chants (trust THEM to use the Beatles ) and i think Hey Hey, My My has that anthemic quality that would make it a good football anthem, and perhaps one that could be associated as a Mariners chant. It would sure be a better option than Hendrix's Purple Haze (as one SFC fan suggested the cove use )

OK I'll have a go.
"Hey hey My my, A-league football is flying high. It's better than anything Australia's seen, hey hey my my.
The king is gone, but he's not forgotten (Johnny Warren, Johnny Warren) A-League's a tribute to Johnny Warren (Thanx Johnny, Johnny Warren) He was the best we've ever seen. The king is gone but he's not forgotten. JOHNNY WARREN!"
