Hello Marinators,
I thought I'd take some initiative and source some commercial prices for us to get to BrisVegas for the Meow game on Feb 4 2006. I know it's a fair way to go to this match, but there are some pretty good deals on offer RIGHT NOW:
1. Countrylink Group Bookings have given us an estimate of a $137.30 RETURN fare from Gosford to Brisbane on the XPT. Student RETURN fares are $118.80 for the same trip, both inclusive of GST. The Adult fare is 40% off.
2. Greyhound buses are $105.00 one way and do NOT have a direct return service; you have a layover in Coffs Harbour for 5 hours. NO THANK YOU!!
3. Here's where it gets VERY interesting. Jetstar and Virgin Blue have extraordinary deals on right now from NEWCASTLE airport. Inclusive of all charges, Jetstar is $59.00 one way and Virgin is $69.00. Would I be right in assuming that the Coast is pretty much in between Mascot & Williamtown, and closer for those who live from Tuggerah onwards?
I reckon the next step is to source Central Coast bus companies to see what they can do. I cannot believe the Jetstar prices, but I want to travel with our group and maybe this can be beaten.
I'm more than happy to make more inquiries should anyone have other ideas, but we've started the ball rolling and let's hope for a great weekend plus a victory in our last match before the Mariners inaugural finals campaign.
Cheerio,
AM

I suggest if you can airfares that cheap then do it NOW.
I imagine that group travel in bus could not match this.
The other options I was considering is getting 12-seaters as three people on the bus can be designated drivers as they only require a 1A licence.

Like I always say, the trip up is half (90% if we lose the match) of the fun!

I'd do jetstar if we aren't doing a bus - the trip is just as fun as WT says.

Wouldn't touch Deathstar (JetStar) with a 10 foot barge pole. For those considering doing the Virgin Blue, keep your eyes on the website as they have daily "Happy Hour" specials to different locations each day between 12pm-1pm from memory. Personally more likely to fly up with QANTAS (and get the FF points), or do the Country Link commute (either Sleeper or First Class)

Marinermick, the 12 seater sounds awesome. beauty of the twelve seater is that anyone 25+ can drive it, doesn't take long to fill, and you can have a procession of them. Just as an indication I phoned Thifty. Leaving 9am Friday morning and getting back late Sunday night is $741. A tad expensive but I reckon you can get a better deal. On these figures you are looking at roughly $90 per head. Don't think you would get it any cheaper by other methods.

plus petrol costs.... and then accomodation so save your pennies boys no, that $90 a head includes petrol costs accomodation and the copious amount of alcohol that will be consumed on the way up is not factored in there is also a driver's accident excess of $550 that i believe should be shared equally in the event of an accident and damage to the bus

There's a formule 1 up the road from Suncorp that the original Marinators stayed in, it's $20 a night each! Well $59 for a three man room that you could really fit 5 in if 2 people just wanted to pass out on the floor.
