Hi, I know I don't post here often though I am a frequent visitor to the site. However, I do have a slight gripe.
Simply put - I don't think we are showing due respect to our team when we start a Mexican Wave during the match. The singing, standing and swearing is fine, but the guys are giving it their best out their for our entertainment. A Mexican Wave is saying "we're bored".
Please think about it.

I'd have to diagree there, i dont think the mexican wave gives the impression that we're bored, i feel that it is a way of getting the rest of the crowd involved and maybe getting a few people in other bays to possibly start some chants or join in with us. it is just a way of braking down the "Marinator"-"Crowd" barrier.

A mexican wave has no place at a football game. I was appalled at the Newcastle game when the Marinators started a wave when we had a free kick. I was amazed that some notable fans were more interested in starting a wave than what was happening on the pitch. It is an insult to the team.

Unfortunatly the wave has become apart of Australian sporting culture now, I must admit to partaking in it at various sporting events, but not the Football and never will

If the urge to do it is there, save it for pre-match or half-time. Personally, i think it should have been left in the Azteca stadium, mexico city, 1986!!!

how does it not belong at football??? the mexican wave was started at the mexican world cup.
i dont mind seeing it done, but as most people have said, not during the game. if some one is injured, or its half time. etc. then do it. dont take away from the game though.

Yeah pre match and half time sounds decent.I have friends in other parts of the stadium that tell me there kids love getting involved in it so I cant see the harm to be honest if its before and at half time.

It's at least been cut out of games where we aren't winning by a decent margin.
During injuries/stoppages, and towards the end of the game if we have the points in the bag, are fine by me. It is for the benefit of the rest of the crowd, who just sit on their arses for the rest of the match and clearly enjoy the wave as a highlight.
I usually try to just do the wave then focus back on the pitch as to not miss anything. But on nights like 11,612 crowd I think it's almost essential so that the rest of the crowd gets the most enjoyment!

I think sense will prevail here. things like the waves get the families / kids involved and thats what we want, party / carnival atmosphere, but only during 'downtime'. I agree that it is disrespectful to the players if its done while they are 'working'.

I also agree on the point that it should only be done during pre-match, half-time

I'm not a fan of the mexican wave, it takes peoples focus away from the game.
I don't mind joining in or seeing 1 started when as we have already said are in the middle of stoppage or half time. It does get the whole stadium invovled thou at some stage of the game which is a positive.

We'll be in the Sports Bar watching for you all! As for Mexican Waves, I'm not a big fan, but: 1. If in 'down' times they involve the crowd, well and good 2. To see one working at CCS with only 5K in is remarkable 3. Never boo those who don't take part

It is distracting, and there were a number of people around me (me included) trying to dissuade people. It is OK in a break in play or at half time, but that's it. Unless it IS a totally boring game, of course. Then anytime is good! ;D

I don't join in Mexican waves for the reasons that have already been mentioned.ie lack of respect for the team. If it was to happen pre-game fine but not while the players are slogging their guts out.

I agree it sends out a message of "we're bored" .. but I agree with everyone suggesting pre-match, half time

The thing that pisses me off is that all the waves at Gosford have started in Bay 16 while matches are in progress and while important things (corners, free kicks etc.) are happening. The wavers then seem more interested in watching the wave go round the ground than what is happening on the pitch. It really detracts from our support and gives the impression we are morons. Piss it off.

Azteca Stadium, 1986, mmmm, Maradona 2, England 1, if I recall correctly!!
No wave when the boys are slaving their guts out. It is disrepectful to our lads.

This is the sort of etiquette info that new supporters to football need drummed into us. Common sense tho not to do it when play is 'on', but after a few sherbets, well, sense is not so common. And with a 3 sided Stadium it is difficult to maintain continuity anyways.
