I'm all for new people coming to sit in bay 16 to watch the games but i do think we need to make a larger effort to get them involved. Tonight i noticed a lot of new faces, a lot of which were sitting down. they stood up when we sang "stand-up" but immediatly after we'd finished they sat down again. along with this, many of them didn't know the songs, which is excusible, but they weren't even clapping along. another problem is the lack of yellow that some of the newcomers are wearing. one simple way to solve most of these problems is at the Melbourne game, split ourselves up (by ourselves i mean people on the forum and some of the other fanatics) and get other people involved throughout the bay. this only has to be done for the first half and then see how things go in the second. this is an easy and simple solution and come finals time if we have the whole bay involved we can be a much more vocal support group for the players.

i was really starting to get the shits with the two guys (men) infront of me. they were right in the middle of bay 16. one had a white shirt on, kept his arms folded the whole game and didnt sing a fkn thing. and he even had a go at me for yelling loudy, so i just yelled even more, even closer to his half deaf ear. the other one at least had yellow but did the exact same thing.
i dont think splitting up will help us at all. we need to get the guys that stand up the back right of the bay to force their way into the middle of it, doing this will bridge the gap between us, and the guys that stand down the front and join in.
the problem is that we get there to late, and when we do half of the seats are taken. this spreads us out, and leaves the rubbish in between. there were a couple of newbies whom i warned at the beggining that theyd have to stand and sing, they were more than happy to join in.
get there earlier, or force our way in, and we wont have a problem.
spreading is just going to make it worse.

You will always get people in Bay 16 who simply want to be close to the atmosphere but not sing, that's fair enough but they wanna have a moan about noise they can f*** off and sit in bay 18 or where ever.
We had discussed splitting up a bit around the bay to try and get people involved more but to be honest I like standing in the area I do and with the guys I stand close to.
People will join in if they want to you can't force someone.

What was worse is that in games like last night half of the usual singers dont join if there isn't much happening on the pitch. It was one of the games where the boys really needed us to help them lift their tempo and go for it. But in this sort of game we perform poorly in bay 16!
I think this has a lot to do with the creativity in songs, and the leadership group in singers.
I even started sitting out a few songs when 'let's go yellow let's go' or 'get into em' went up for the 45th time.
Usually we get away with it because as the game wears on and there are tonnes of goals we have plenty of 'situational' songs, and songs for the opposition fans. Still then, nothing is really invented on the spot.
When it's a boring nil all we need some new things coming up, and from a group of leading chanters, so it will actually get going around the bay. For eg, when our big defender strongers came on and went up front, for a novelty for him, i tried to start 'stringers, give us a goal' but no one joined in. Also, after we'd scored, DJ I think tried to start 'are you watching, newcastle?' and it didnt get going. These interesting, relevant, on the spot chants, are the best in my opinion, we cant sing the same 8 songs forever!

Both WT and Jimmy have good points. Jimmy's idea of people getting there earlier is a good one but I dunno if anyone is willing to leave the kendall earlier Also WT has good point. The songs do get a bit old and people stop joining in. I love some of the songs mad eup on the spot, theyre classic....just need to join in with them

You are right Tiger. What we needed was the "c'mon Yellow" repeated (not to be confused with the "Come on you yellow" slow dirge. When done effectively (with a Pommy accent) this song is guaranteed to give any side a lift. I should have thought of it and got it going. I think I was as lethargic as everyone else. I will try to get closer to you guys (whenever I have in the past I finish up behind Auburn) and see what can be done in the future. I am not stupid just a little slow.

Is it just me or did I see a Melbourne Storm jersey on a bloke SITTING in bay 16? what's the world coming to! I saw that too, he was a stun mullet. One of my mates who came is learning the songs so hes making it a regular fixture. He was chanting. I didnt sing all (like a yellow football team as I follow a purple football team) ( ;D). It was a little dead but needed more atmosphere. Hopefully it will been seen on Saturday at Aussie.

Ah the old faithfull whinge rears its head again.I was all for getting into people for not joining in at the start of the season but then it suddenly dawned on me we dont own bay 16 it is GA section and if people want to sit there they are entitled to without getting abused for not singing or joining in.We have no membership or territorial rights for that section so leave it be we have 1 game of the regular season left and a lot of people will remember that game so instead of remembering getting abused why not make them feel welcome for something different and we still wonder why we dont fill BAy 16 game after game?

Maybe try a more laid back approach to the next game(s) then? If someone wants to sit down then good luck seeing the game.. if they don't want to sing then don't tell them off. If someone has a whinge then smack em in the head.. I mean, politely let them know we stand and make noise all game Theres a real clique vibe in bay 16 these days. A couple of games ago I wandered into the middle and got glared at.. lol, I've been there every game and felt like an opposition fan or something.

Look at the picture at the top of our forum, its says Central Coast Mariners Supporters bay, it pisses me off when you see people just sitting there like lemons but unfortunately yes it's still GA and people can choose to sit where they wish.
Bay 16 was 1 of the worst I've ever seen it on Sunday to be honest, perhaps people are expecting too much because a) we were playing NZ, and b) we are on a good unbeaten run.

Wow...this topic STILL being discussed? I thought we would have had this sorted by now. Fish, I agree that bay 16 is GA, but so are other bays and lets face it, with crowds of 5000 etc, people can 'SIT' where they want virtually anywhere in the ground...why do they choose to sit in bay 16? Cause the MARINATORS made it what it is. the MARINATORS gave it the energy, the excitement, the colour, the fever pitch when our team scores. As far as I'm concerned thats the bay we should be somehow showing people that its OURS and if they want in...no problem, it can be THEIRS too, all they have to do is show your support of the mariners by buying a $2.99 yellow t-shirt from best n less and clap along to the chants (or even better, get into it and sing!) not much to ask! Is it? As for someone wearing a melbourne shirt....AND SITTING? what the f*** is going on over there? LOL

totally agree. I also think some people view bay 16 as the cool place to be seen and just sit there to look cool without actually joining in.

I think we need to be a little cool on this topic. Today's lemons could be tomorrows Marinators. What we are seeing now are lots of locals coming to football games for the first time. They will become involved and more committed and more attached with each game. Give them time they have to crawl before they can run. It is a big step for a normal person to let go and become a complete idiot in public like the rest of us. ;D

They MUST be made aware that SITTING in bay 16 wearing a victory shirt CANNOT happen! C'mon!

But it wasnt even a Victory shirt, it was a Melbourne Storm rugby league shirt, i am firstly surprised that someone actually supports the Storm because they get less people than KFC to their home games. Maybe that guy should have gone to sit in the KFC supportors bay, he might be a mariners supportor but we would believe he would be a KFC fan wearing that shirt. But i think when the finals come alot more people would realise its thier last chance to come join us and i think they will come around and bay 16 will be quite full and hopefully we can finally get bay 17 and bay 15 standing up and joining in

Maybe we need to nurture our newest Bay 16rs and show them the way. Teach them for they are wanting to be taught.
