The way the Mariners have battled and fought all year has caught the hearts and imagination of a lot of people, myself included, but mostly you lot on the coast. To make the Finals was an achievement for the Central Coast, to be competing in the Grand Final is special for everybody on the Coast in my opinion.
I am a former Wamberal Public School lad who has been living in Canberra for a long time. I still have family and strong ties to the Central Coast so I am overjoyed, as I have been all year. That side and the fantastic support they have received has given the coast such an identity and profile, it has astounded me even here in Canberra how it has grown.
The point of this thread is to wish you supporters who have made it what it is all the best. Enjoy your week and soak it up. For as long as I can remember the Central Coast has been treated like the little brother of Sydney, now it is time to stand up and pay one back. They don't care like you guys if they win, next week they will be back supporting their NRL side, the Swans or if they are really sad, the Waratahs. It means more to the coast than Sydney and the fairytale needs to continue for the Coast to finally get one back.
I got my ticket last week and will be there near half way surrounded by Sydney fans no doubt. I will be giving my all to get the team across the line as i'm sure most of you will be as well.
I can't wait.
For the Coast.....

I wonder how many other Coastie ex-pats are out there supporting the team? When it was announced that the Coast had been given a team I asked dibo (we'd both been living down in Sydney for a few years) whether we'd support the Mariners or the Bling. We thought about it for about half a second... Even for those of us that don't still live on the Coast, or have spent a long time living away from the area, the Mariners have given a real pride in the area. BTW, Omni, what are the 'Tahs' and the 'Brumbies'? ;D ;D

I think the coast is very good with instilling a sense of local pride. Hell I commute to Richmond just because I don't want to live in Sydney.

When it was announced that the Coast had been given a team I asked dibo (we'd both been living down in Sydney for a few years) whether we'd support the Mariners or the Bling. We thought about it for about half a second... i think there was surprise, and then clarity. it's funny, i've actually lived down here for more of my life - born in st george hospital (whence you can see kogarah oval, explaining my NRL affiliation), moved up when i was 8, moved down for uni when i was 19, and to be honest i quite like it down here. but football - football is something of the heart and soul, it's not explained by chronology or base arithmetic. if it were, i'm sure i would have chosen the easier [much easier] option of hopping aboard the bling bandwagon nice and early, and saved myself countless hours of round trips. but no, football is about feel and pathos, and ecstacy from knowing that but for the grace of whomever you could be the one in despair and pain. there's no rationalising football, and so i know that come next year, win or lose the grand final, i'll be buying a membership, i'll hop on that train, and i'll have the full-time dilemma - go to the train now, or stick around for the 2.58am sleeper... and i'm a gloryhunting bastard!

Living on the door step of the coast, no decision was needed who I would support (plus the ex Spirit contingent of coaching staff and players) The amount of hard work they have done getting the community behind them (both on a supporter level and business level), has been outstanding.

I love this club .. and this group of supporters as much as life itself, someone introduced me over the weekend as "a marinator first and foremost, a bloke who works at channel 10 second" couldn't be more accurate! Lets cherish this moment forever guys...

Yep, I moved up here, and been here for the last 3 or so years. I still work in Sydney, days at work are long, the F3's a bitch, long weekends trying to get home on a Friday etc. you could go on and on about all the blasted detractions about living up here, but really I wouldn't wanna be anywhere else. I stumbled onto the Mariners and the Marinators and like all good things, it's wasn't something pre planned - it just happened that I get involved! I had always had it in my mind that should the Central Coast get a team in a National competition that I'd get behind it, but I never thought it would be a FOOTBALL team, I'd end up going to Newcastle twice, Sydney coming up for 3 times, Brisbane once and get to a home game on countless occassions! Plus get involved with the best bunch of lunatics and all round "good blokes and sheilas" that I have ever seen in one place that has become the Marinators. I second Glen's sentiments! ;D

Here here. I've lived on the coast 18years & whilst others were arguing over who might come to the coast I always wanted a team of our own.
Well 18 years later we do & aren't they some team to be proud of. It's no fairytale cause they aren't real. GrandFinal is our realitiy & full credit to our wonderful team both players & coaching.
U rock guys.
