Thinking today about how we can engage other parts of the ground to be more vocal (ie people in the stands). The occasional "Mariners clap clap clap" is a great start.
Yellow Army is easy and a lot of the members in the stands stand with us at away games and (presumably) join in at EAS or SFC. Somehow, we need to replicate that at home.
Maybe if the chant was taken up all around the ground in certain circumstances (eg corners) then I think it would help lift the atmosphere in a ground that wasn't built to be a "cauldron of sound".
If every time we go a corner, people stood (wherever they were) and started up with "yellow army" I'm sure it would help lift the boys.
Thoughts??

Great to see someone else thinking along these lines: (this is from the "New Chants" thread last night) The chant of "Mariners - clap, clap, clap" has been supported (or at least tolerated) so far because it is capable of involving a lot of the stadium outside of the bays. Probably due to its simplicity and repetitiveness. Now it seems to have caught on quite well, and doesn't always rely on the encouragement of the Marinators to get it going. Is it time that some more simple chants were thrown around, with the vision of finding an alternative to "clap-clap-clap" for involving the rest of the stadium? IMO - and this is a matter of personal taste - it sounds more like a primary school sports carnival than a football match. You know when you hear a stadium in song, it's unmistakably football; not the sydney 2000 olympics (aussie aussie aussie, etc)? Thought of this on sunday when "come on you Yellow" was quite clearly echoing around the ground. Sounded so much more original and inspiring, then i thought, How simple is that? Why couldn't 20,000 be singing that at the first sellout? If it won't catch on because it's too many words to learn, maybe we should think of a way to make "Mariners" sound more football-esque than ol' 3-clap does. eg. find a characteristic melody to sing it to like they do in "Liiiiiii-ver-pooooool" Just an idea; 'cause it appears in the stands like nothing's catching on other than 3-clap, and Marinating's all about showing the sports fans the atmosphere that football can provide over any alternate sports. Sydney could be a good chance to start with the travelling non-marinators who will be spread around the ground once we get back home. ??

Unfortunately I didn't get to go to the game on Sunday, I did however manage to catch the replay on the plane yesterday. Even though only half the bay was full from what I could see, I could hear you guys quite well, in particular the trumpet guy.
The loudest chant was the everywhere we go. Closely followed by Mariners and Yellow Army.
I think if we stick to a few, ensure they are succinct, then rest of the stadium will catch on.

Here's a novel thought:
Why don't the travelling non-Marinators JOIN US at the Sydney Football Stadium when we play the Bling next week? The bays at the excellent SFS are MASSIVE, and I know we could fit everyone in. I personally would love to have everyone together just this once, it would be just a great afternoon if we could do this.
What an ideal opportunity to be as one, sledge the Bling's new Pommie import (I can hear the "You're half as good as Yorkie" chants already) and cheer our Mariners onto victory?
What do you reckon?

I agree that this is a good idea but no one on the eastern side joins in im usually sitting their or the bay and in the eastern grand stand ( or the conservative grandstand ) and everyone would look at u as a retard.

I agree that this is a good idea but no one on the eastern side joins in im usually sitting their or the bay and in the eastern grand stand ( or the conservative grandstand ) and everyone would look at u as a retard. ...until people realise that that's what you do when you go to the football. in another code, the AFL, the chardonnay sippers put their prawn sandwiches down for long enough to do things like 'sydney *clap* *clap* *clap*', and the slow 'sydney' chant. it actually sounds good, because the whole crowd gets involved, it just took a little time to get going. in particular it takes enough people to go 'hang on - i don't need to be at the end to be noisy and participate, i can do it from here' and with the roof up there it will echo and carry. come on you yellow and maaaaa-rin-eeeers could definitely work, because they're easy to have synchronised across a big group. if one in ten up the top of one side are singing, chances are that's a coupla hundred people. the more that start doing it, the more that will follow. it's the sort of thing that gets a momentum of its own until all of a sudden it's 'traditional'.
