In my opinion, I feel that we aren't getting the most out of our bench. I believe that Lawrie should be making the replacements earlier than the 80th or 85th minute. The replacements need time to get themselves into the match rather than coming on for approx 10 minutes and trying to make an impact. I have seen Leo Carle very little during the year, but what I have seen has been quite good. I also know that we are a fit side and the majority of players can play for the full 90 minutes. But I feel that changes should be made earlier during the game.
As I said, this is just my opinion, don't shoot me down.
What does everyone else think ?

lawrie tactics last night clearly showed he was playing for the draw and hoping to pinch a goal
- first sub was a striker for a striker (kwasnik for petrie) - second sub was a straight swap becuase of a osman injury - third sub was for a striker (though he plays in the midfield) for an attacking midfield (carle for pondeljak)
if lawrie was playing for a win he would have kept petrie on, pondeljak on and put kwasnik or carle on for a midfielder or a defender
i think last night he was happy at 0-0 and did not want to disrupt things

We lost a spark when Petrie went off, I would have kept Tommy on too, his pace can hurt any defence!

i think we should sub at half time or just after it, having late subs just gives rise to suspicion in my case, as to why we conceded a late goal after falling asleep.

lawrie tactics last night clearly showed he was playing for the draw and hoping to pinch a goal that's exactly right and also to prevent fatigue and possible injury to some players......statistics show that the last 15% of the second half are very cricial to muscle fatigue... thus the 80 minute subs. you should not underestimate McKinna's ability as a coach!

I don't think anyone underestimates Lawrie's coaching ability. He has done a great job with the team so far. However, I don't think it is beneficial to a side to be making changes with 10 minutes to go. I would love to see the fringe players get more time on the pitch because we are going to have to rely on them if we get more injuries and the only place to get match fit is on the pitch.

what you are saying is true. Normally not counting forced substitution due to injuries, tactics are to start subing after 70 minutes of play.

I reckon Leo Carle should start more often, he has not had enough game time for my liking, he is a brilliant player.

I also would like to see some more of Leo. Now is the time, besides the back four we've basically been rubbish in my opinion nearly all season except for the two Perth games. It's not helping that Nick is out, but while he is, I think we should maybe try some different things til it works. Like this...
Vuker Wilko Clark Beauchamp Osman Gumper Spencer Leo Heff Tommy Petrie
We almost played this for a while, but instead of Leo it was Hutch or Browny who just didnt work there. Also defensively on the right I think this suits us better because Sully or Ossie cant cut it as an out and out right back without the cover of a Wilkinson.

yeah, try some more combos. develop players, try a few options. i don't know that we're the best team in the league, but we certainly have options as far as selections are concerned, so we should probably experiment to see how things go.
back 3 is a great idea, offer some more width. play something like
danny/creepy wilko beauchamp clark osman gumps spenny sonic tommy kwassy petrie
pondeljak will win ball all day and run his guts out, if he runs from deeper we draw his passing game into play as well. sonic and sully can get in deep and whip balls across.
find ways of slotting leo in- he's got skills and might create an extra man simply by beating a defender from time to time.
use as many players as we can too. it's better for us to have options, it's better for them to develop (especially our juniors), it's better for both of us if they wind up moving on to bigger and better things for more money for them and transfer fees for us.
