I saw on NBN Sports report last night that the Mariners were close to signing Jim/James McMcaster (Unsure of the first name) who is a local and has come back from Leeds Utd and another o/s player who wouldn't look out of place playing 2nd row for any Rugby League team.
Does anyone know anything about these 2 ??

I think Jamie was from the Peninsula and left for England when he was 17/18. He was signed by Leeds as a youth, and as far as I'm aware he has stayed there the whole time.
Also, if you have a copy of Football Manager 2006, his profile is used as an example in the manual.

Jamie would be an excellent signing for us, having followed leeds over the years i know that the few times he has broken into the first team there have been when injuries etc dictated so but he did well when he came in and held down his spot for periods. Other than that he's been a reserve regular, which would at least be up to A-League standard anyway. He's been out on loan a few times and his contract may have expired now though, I'm not sure.
It's hard to say but I'd guess he'd be one of our best players, and would likely play on the right side of midfield.
Dont know about the big bloke you speak of!

Peninsula is right, Umina to be exact. he was constantly in the local papers as a young boy, touted as a future star of the game. A lot of the local football community were annoyed at the time but went of to the National Institute for Sport in Canberra and also went to the same Westfield Sports High as Harry K, Carney and a host of other Australian Football Stars.
Played for England in the Youth team (16 y.o), but talk has it that he was bullied into it by the English Academy Heads at Leeds where he went as a 15 .yo because he had a choice to play for either Australia (born in Balmain in 1982), Scotland (both parents) or England (Scotland part of GB). Soccer Australia weren't offering anything to the youngster at the time, likewise from Scotland and so he felt obligated to keep Leeds happy where he was on apprenticeship.
Has been loaned out to Coventry City, Chesterfield, Swindon Town FC and most recently back to Chesterfield.
Tiger's right in that he's a regular Res player for Leeds , once scoring a hat-trick against Newcastle and has had Champions League Qualifier experience as well.(I think he may have even played for Australia in U20's, but would have to check the FFA's website.)
Would be a excellent signing for us as an attacking mid-fielder, which is something we need (no offence spenny). Great story too, to have him back on the Coast and a good tie-in for the club in that he started here, gone to Leeds an English Club's and is back home playing for the Mariners, pathway indeed!

Didn't see it, what did the report exactly say? I'd had a few beers, but they did say that they were close to signing McMaster and they were unsure about the other bloke. I'm prety sure that the other guy was a midfielder and McMaster a forward. They were both seen training with the team at Mingara.

I couldn't help myself so called the club,
The official release will likely come out on Monday. It will probably announce multiple new signings.
As I speculated Macca has been out of football for a few months because his contract ran out at Leeds. And the FFA has prevented us from playing friendlies so any new signings we make will only have training to revive any fitness they are lacking.
Dylan McAllister had been training with them but just for fitness' sake.

Thats awesome news. Jamie comes from the mighty Umina United I think. That wouldbe a great new signing for us. Will he be able to play the whole season with us?

Is this for next season as like Kevrenor said the deadline for new signings had closed for 2005/6. Wasn't Qld trying to sign a sth American late last month but the paper work went astray so missed out on the deadline?

The new signings would fall under replacements for long term injury sufferers Nick and Boogs who have been ruled out for the season I imagine that clause would be still open with squad limitations

yeah it'd be replacement signings, which would have to be still legal (what if 10 players broke their leg tomorrow). One is for Nick.
Kevrenor, like I said, Dylan was just training with them for fitness and isnt a signing.

Guys, wouldn't one of the signings have to be U/20 if they are replacing Boogs?

Yea Trott is 20 at the moment and i think that means he is still classed as a U/20

Last I heard Jamie McMaster was with ARG Aarhus in Denmark. He played for England at junior level which was clearly a ploy by Leeds to stop Australia calling him back on international duty. Would be great to have him back on the coast.

I did find out from his brothers GF that he was in talks with mariners on Monday but she said she would message me tonight when she asked Baz (Jamies Brother).

What I've heard with respect to Jamie McMaster and playing for the English youth side is that he was in a training camp for the Scottish youth side and Leeds pulled him out and forced him to commit to England.
