Just to get an idea how good A League is, does anyone know what sort of crowds the NSL was getting to games?

Looks like apart from Perth and Adelaide, South melbourne were pulling alright crowds. Shame about the rest of the comp!

No wonder they had to start up the A-League, basicly all the teams in the NSL got crowds under 5,000 people

I remember the wet night at North Sydney when the official crowd was 1004 (estimated as 700, apparently Phil Moss was too embarrassed to announce the true crowd figure). The competition only got publicity at that stage when there were crowd troubles, which weren't as common as the media at the time made them out to be.
Incidentally, 4 current Mariners players (as well as Tobin and Fergie) were in the Spirit starting 11 that night.

The attendances at Rat Park were even worse!

In the early days the Spirit were getting close to 15,000 though weren't they? I hope the A-League doesn't drop off similarly
