See the cover of Football Fever today: and also see this article Smells like team spirit (which in parts reads like a reprise of mine and WT's discussion of the Mariners' recruiting policies, including mentioning the similarities between ours and the Swans' 'no dickheads' policy. There's another smaller article (not online) talking up McKinna's negotiations to extend his contract. The Age (Melbourne paper! Taking interest in the Mariners! Well, their team is the worst in Australia...) has a piece on Lawrie, as do Seven.com.au, SBS and the SMH. Ain't it great to be an A-League good news story? We love you Lawrie, we do!

Quote of the Year by Sully "Everyone who meets the gaffer (McKinna) loves him. He is a nice guy and they say nice guys never win. Well hopefully that will change this year. We all respect the gaffer and get on with him."

Ahhh finally everyone sits up and takes notice. Anyone that followed Lawrie at Northern Spirit shouldn't be surprised, the work he did there with a "no-name" squad was phenomenal and a well deserved coah of the year award. And now the same genuine, down to earth approach continues at the Mariners Putting aside my Mariners bias when I say this, but we have the best Coach and support staff in the A-League, and the results are showing how well the players respond to this

I dont like it, too much to live up to, Its better just to quietly go about the business, & catch them by surprise. Anyway they are still talking Sydney up to the hilt.

Good write up, although I was taken aback at a Tele A-League article without a single mention of Sydney!
Team spirit stuff seems pretty spot on - Mariners are mercifully free of the prima donnas and egos of some of the other teams in this league (eg our northern neighbours)

Considering FF's form early in the season....I NEVER in a MILLION YEARS thought I'd see what in this weeks edition. I'm just hanging out for the 7th March edition with the front page picture of Spenny (in home strip?!) holding the Burger Ring aloft
