I know I dont live there anymore, but I still have plenty of involvement and in the past invested much time and $$$ in the game on the Coast.
I hear councils are charging $7000 per year for ground hire, and the only work they do on the grounds is to mow every now and then, this is absolute bullshit and you guys should not stand for it. Smaller are clubs are becoming financially strapped because of the charges.
I propose someone stands up to them and maybe organises a rally outside Gosford and Wyong Councils.
The CCF (Central Coast Football) seems to be doing nothing, so its up to all of you to take the matter into your own hands.
Make sure you are heard and vote with your feet at the next council elections...make sure you get rid of that Wyong Mayor who is an absolute lazy, corrupt facist pig!!!

fascist? that's harsh mate. do you even know the meaning of the word because you sure as hell can't spell it. this is a good way to get what we want as players on the coast let's piss them off and then get even less lee-way. people like you are probably the reason we have to wait so long to get fields i'm willing to bet your the 1st to complain and the last to offer to give up your time.

I agree with roar meat. The councils treat football clubs like total shit. $7000 for ground hire? Total rubbish! Most grounds dont have much grass on them anyway!
I like roarmeats idea of protesting but there wouldnt be enough people to get together to change it....i dont think anyway

erm... it's not like me to take the unpopular point of view, especially if it's nerdy ;D but here goes:
grounds cost a lot to maintain. cutting grass, maintaining fences, re-turfing, yada yada yada... don't forget you've got to pay for the people and the equipment to do this (considering how long it takes for one person to mow the ground, each staff member can only handle so many grounds).
then there's the lighting - big arse floodlight bulbs suck in the kilowatts and cost the council a lot to run. when they're on 5 nights a week for 6 months for 4 hours at a time that costs plenty.
then there's also the opportunity cost for the council - each huge paddock reserved for recreational use in the middle of a suburb is land they can't develop and create added income through rates and so on, so that has a certain cost (though planning protocols have a bit to do with this as well).
basically, grounds cost more than you think. someone has to pay. it pretty much has to come from ground hire, rates or revenue from higher levels of government. i think that given the health benefits of active people playing sport we should be getting the state government to fork out. in particular, given that better grounds = less injuries = less cost to the public health system (funded and administered at the state level) we've got an argument for more money from there.
so... i'm not sure i support protesting against the council(s), but by all means write a letter to gosford or wyong council, and just try to get some sort of response. you could even try the minister for local government or minister for sport and recreation?

As someone who does have a bit of contact with council, I'd like to know your sources. Given how you are 'in Queensland' and all, do you even know the name of the bloke you just called a Fascist?
As Dibo says, it costs alot of money to maintain grounds and your grounds need to be in fairly decent condition to prevent injuries, football has the tricky area of being a 'single use' kind of sport, Rugby Fields can be used by two sports but football pitches are only for football, or are poor grounds.

I used to live at Ourimbah. 2. Bob Graham used to be Patron of our club. 3. I was Vice-President at OUFC 4. I was on CCSA Board 5. The only council maintenance done on grounds is mowing, and they wont let us train on them. I think I know the workings of these councils better than most from dealing with them. Bob Graham has done nothing, except get a grant from the feds to clean up Terrigal Lagoon, which was not used and probably put in the pricks pocket.

Mate, Ive given up heaps of time. Check with your buddy Marinermick and he will tell you. A bit hard for me now as I live in Qld. I would do anything I can, its just hard to organise from here. fascist? that's harsh mate. do you even know the meaning of the word because you sure as hell can't spell it. this is a good way to get what we want as players on the coast let's piss them off and then get even less lee-way. people like you are probably the reason we have to wait so long to get fields i'm willing to bet your the 1st to complain and the last to offer to give up your time.

If you let them get away with it you will be paying $500 rego fees, think of the kids that will not be able to afford playing, loss of future Mariners. The game will be for the rich only.

Martin (Roarmeat) has a right to post this as he is certainly in the know.
He has put many many long hours for the development of Central Coast Football. More then I dare say anyone on this forum so for that pure fact alone his opinion on this matter should be respected.
When he talks Roar crap you can have a go at him.
The current state of play is disgraceful. Our teams cannot train on Ourimbah Oval til April. This is despite there being no sport on our oval since last August, yet then Council has the hide to turn around and double the maintenance charges on the oval.
Disgraceful and I agree they are pigs.

Bombard Gosford and Wyong councillors with emails about this. You can find email addresses at: www.gosford.nsw.gov.au/council/and www.wyong.nsw.gov.au/about/your_councillors.htmlCouncilllors usually respond to letters and emails from consitutents. I know some councillors pretty well, and they're more responsive than people give them credit for. Even if councils can't/won't reduce ground hire fees, they can at least account for where the money goes. Council expenditure is public information. Ask them why football clubs can't access grounds until April, if, as people suggest in the other thread, rugby league clubs get access to their grounds earlier. Ask them to justify this when most grounds are in pretty good condition in March. Cricket doesn't tear up grounds like the football codes do, so the argument about needing time to restore the grounds doesn't wash with me. Another way of bringing this to light is to write heaps of letters to local papers. Mayors Maher and Graham always get themselves in the papers talking up the Mariners and Socceroos (eg re. Soccers playing Asian Cup qualifier at CCS). Write something about the hypocrisy of them posturing like this, and then stomping on the grassroots development of the game on the Coast. Like all politicians, they'll respond to bad press

F**k me Id never have thought Id be in agreeance with Roarmeat on any issue but the day has happened(Your teams still rubbish though ;D).Ive played my entire football life in Sydney and have had experience on Boards of clubs and know how much and little councils can do.The idea of an email or letter protest is a valid one,not sure on the difference it will make but we have to try something. We need to get a councillor or councillors on side to vent our frustration through.I wont profess to know the costs of maintaining grounds or public liability insurance but $7000 is a shit load of cash for non profit organisations.
