the squadron was 5 rows, packed, packed and more packed, it was the only way we could fit in, we could have gone much further down the bay if we had wanted to. we couldnt hear you, and you probably couldnt hear us. i thought i heard bagpipes at one stage, but wasnt sure. "YOU MUST BE BLOODY DEAF .... OI!! After that turn out, you lot shouldnt ever try to compare yourselve with us. 5 rows, whoopy doo!!!

i was rather disappointed with the figure of 10000. it was definitely much bigger than against perth, much bigger, for a start we had all your bays practically full so it must have been at least 13000. oh well. not to be, i didnt see a single ad for the game on television, something the ffa needs to look at. awesome match, one in which we should have had wrapped up at half time with a 2-0 or 3-0 lead (not sure about thommos penalty chance) reddy made some mistakes, but mroe than made up for it with his fantastic saves, even the one that got past him. the squadron was 5 rows, packed, packed and more packed, it was the only way we could fit in, we could have gone much further down the bay if we had wanted to. we couldnt hear you, and you probably couldnt hear us. i thought i heard bagpipes at one stage, but wasnt sure. cant wait for the rematch on your turf next week. You heard bagpipes alright! I cant see why you could only use 5 rows.

cause there were people taking up the rows in front of us, we just crammed as many people in as possible, and by 5 rows i mean the peopel who were standing the whole game.
thats all i could see standing up (i was down the front, there was possibly a few more as well.

We have never compaired ourselves with you. You have more numbers. We arent stupid. And no, we didnt hear you, and yes we have been told from people that we were the ones they heard from the other side of the ground for all of 75mins.
BUT well done to the guys who came down. Just dont expect a big turn out from the f***ing shithouse rugby league fans in Newcastle who f***ing sit on their hands. Absolute disgrace, although there must have been more than 10, 000 there. 3, 000 from you guys, plus it looked like more than the QLD game, plus kids had to pay this week which means they would have counted.
Ahhhhh I dunno, see you guys next week.

I was going thinking of going down towards Bay 2 to see what you sounded like, cause I imagine you WERE making noise too. It's a shame the 2 groups can't see and sing AT each other.

The game wascrtainly a spectacle some nervous moments in the first half though. Newcastle look really tired and unfit in the second half, I was surprised by that... I couldnt believe there were f*** all Newcastle fans there and you guys outnumbered thm and outsang them, sounded good. Its a shit ground, but I guess its the best in Newcastle...Looks like you may get lose to a sell out next friday...wish I could make it.
So do you guys want to play Sydney or Adelaide?

Gonna have to beat both to win it, so i dont have a preference, personally. Just getting this far is an accomplishment. Not counting my eggs yet, will be a massive second leg next week.

We said it before the game, we wouldnt mind being outsung if we won the game.
We lost the game, but in no way we're we disgraced by you lot. It was supposed to be pretty even by the sound of things from the Old Stand.

isnt it funny how only the newcastle fans think they did well in term of crowd support. even parties who have no bias to the clubs said the mariner fans were BY FAR better. just watched the replay aswell. you were dwarfed by the yellow on show there. you had 5 rows standing up, we had two bays decked in yellow! just admit it, u were outsung at home, you lost far and square and your all a bunch of scummers. walking out of the ground was quite a good feeling. having 8-10 yr olds from the squadron telling me to f*** off. newcastle and the squadron summed up right there.

Blah blah blah. I spent 10-15 minutes standing at the back of the squadron during the second half to settle this once and for all.
2 or 3 chants (which were all repeated up to three times during the time I was there) sounded good underneath the stand because they were clapping/drumming chants and the squadron had the people in surrounding bays joining in, full credit to them for that and they sounded great. Where I was standing the sound reverberated nicely.
In between those songs were some singing ones that were barely audible, as only the hardcore squaders that knew them and they just dont have the numbers.
have only watched the second half replay but the marinators were clearly louder (coudn't hear any squadron singing) over the foxtel, besides once or twice when the drums came through nice and loud.
everyone has commented to me how the hairs stood up on the back of their necks when 4 bays of yellows stood up in a big wave as 'Stand up for the Mariners' rang through the grandstand.

Last night was fantastic they played average in the first half i think very even but Newcastle defiently should have been 2 up and they blew it we had chances and didnt take them and we can be thankful that reddy couldnt hold on to the ball. The defence was great from us and we didnt give Newcastle too much of a chance in the 2nd half and when they did get a chance we hit them on the counter attack through sully and tommy, they could hardly handle it.
Last night was probally the loudest we have been singing for a while and i would say we had more that sydney. I got there only about 20 minutes before kick off and i could see the sea of yellow there when i was walking in and it looked amazing.
