I got a PAX 4342 about 2:45 Fri (which is higher than ever for a week before). Wasn't any 4 seats together (requried to sell a 'family') in 41, 42 or low alphabet 43. Had to go Bay 34

It's impossible to be certain, but one theory on PAX suggests that after all the sponsors, giveaways, media, promotions etc etc get their tickets allocated (say PAX numbers 1-2000 for example) the amount of PAX above and beyond that is what's sold. I'd like to hope we'd sold more than 4-5k though.
One thing that is closer to being certain (but still not 100%) is that PAX increases as tickets sell, so, given my PAX of 2244 on Tuesday, it's likely that 4k have been sold since then.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a PAX number? Is it the number you get on the ticket? I thought that was just the ticket number

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a PAX number? It's a spiritual mystery as evidenced by one Sydney FC forumite's signature "Believe in the PAX" and numerous threads in theirs and ours have questioned its existence The truth of the mystery is guarded by the great Ticketek (or nobody's asked them) MM does not believe (well he didn't )

I reckon its as close as you can get to GROUND CAPACITY minus TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE FOR SALE (so season tix, etc. are factored in). The PAX on the very last ticket sold is likely to be pretty close to the true crowd (less no shows)
At a couple of games, out of curiosity on the matter, I asked walk-ups not long before kick-off (and people were still buying) what their PAX was and it was within a few hundred of the announced crowd

I reckon its as close as you can get to GROUND CAPACITY minus TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE FOR SALE (so season tix, etc. are factored in). er... simpler explanation - tickets sold, minus those never for sale (the season tix, the complimentaries and corporates...). so... assuming that we have a capacity of 20,000 (close enough), and there are 2,000 comps, corps and season tix, then when the PAX hits 18k we put up the house full sign. 2k + 18k = 20k

There aren't many freebies going around for this match. I know people who can usually get a few decent comps to each home match but can only get two GA tix for Friday. Which could mean they're expecting to sell a lot more than usual...

the season tix, the complimentaries and corporates I still think these are within the PAX No. Although I don't know about the corporate boxes

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a PAX number? Is it the number you get on the ticket? I thought that was just the ticket number In case people answered the wrong question here, the PAX number appears on the ticket but it is printed really small. Look on the white stub part. It's not just the number under 'NO.' ie ticket number.
