How lucky was that.
Congrats to both sides for creating a derby which captures the imagination so brilliantly, and to the 17,429 who made it an absolute spectacle from my vantage point in front of the box.
While we got through, it wasn't one of our greatest performances this season, the ball just couldn't find its mark, Spenny's passing struggling in particular IMO.
We should have had a penalty in the first half and once again I think Przydacz treated us unfairly, but there were calls which could have gone against us, he shouldn't get crucified for that performance.
Once Brownie failed to control those two balls one on one with Reddy I thought it was all over, but tio his credit it was a great ball in for the goal.
Congrats to Heff, but I do feel he gets caught out upfield a bit too often, and if a team is strong on the break, Clarky could easily get caught out.
The most pleasing aspect was the way that team again stood up for each other, and played to the brink of exhaustion. While it wasn't pretty, their dedication again made me prous to be a mariners fan. See you at the club in a hour!!

Just got home and must say that was the worst performance I have seen from us, we were awful and could have few complaints if we had lost.
The scum managed to drag us down to their level and it became a dog fight.
Spenny was terrible and Tommy and Super Stew just dont gel upfront. And why do we persist in pumping high balls up the middle when we dont have a big tall central striker - Petrie tries his best but I would play Kwassie alongside and Tommy wide on the left.
Positives - as usual Wilko was fantastic as were Clarky and Beauchamp. great crowd and credit to the 2 or 300 scum, I never expected them to bring that many. No doubt there will have been 5,000 by Monday.
Thank F thats over

I thought we played poorly tonight as well. There would have been alot of people at the game tonight who havent been to a mariners game before. My only regret is that we didnt play to our potential for them.
I great result just the same though. I hope sydney get up and we roll adelaide next week. Sydney vs CCM GF would be great.

Such a shame that the newbies didn't get to see the mariners at their best. We allowed Newcastle to change our game. Should have done soo much more. A win is a win but we will have to pick things up to beat Adelaide/Sydney.

Ugly draw. (But how much was this 1-1 better than the Father's Day 1-1). I'm sure it's not healthy to have your heart in your mouth for that long But we're there and the boys WILLpick it up next week, especially knowing what to work on

My brother and I have been watching the Mariners all year. We are still baffled every time Pondlejak comes off yet Petrie stays on. The majority of the time Petrie does sweet FA, how he managed to become equal top scorer is beyond us.
A pretty poor performance all round tonight. For me the massive positive is that the Newcastle goal was from a freak dipping strike so our defence is still bang on, there is nothing they could do about that.
Everyone will have to lift a notch the next 2 weeks. They can do it if they put it together.

Before anyone gets into Danny for the goal - lets all remember he is only a kid in a position where players mature in their late 20's.
Im sure he will learn from it and he kept us in the game at EAS so it evens itself out I suppose.
once they scored, it was always going to be an ugly game and if thats the style of football the Jets play, no wonder no one wants to go to watch. Absolute dross

No problem with Danny, he has done us proud! I believe the only great performances tonight were from Beauchamp and Heffernan the rest were ordinary with a few flashes of brilliance.

Yea, well done to the squadron for getting out here, but you lose points for throwing your rubbish on our field, twice, when we warned you you'd get kicked out if you did.
Anyway thank God that's over, see someone nextweek.

no complaints about danny, not much he could do. cant stand on your line all night. lucky shot and flukey goal.
i give scumcastle some credit, they marked us out of the game and didnt let complete many plays. we had lots of nice passing moves, one-twos etc, that looked good but were intercepted by the scum. good on em, they did their homework, but....we won, we won, we won, we won, we won and not them!

Never has a draw been so pleasing. Amusing on Gosford station coming home singing to the Mariners supporters "Your so shit its unbelievable", well what does that make them

Walking back to the car through Baker St, there was a Jets family with a kid in that awful gold shirt and the dad wearing a Jets cap.
A group of Mariners kids were behimd them singing, not aggressive, they probably hadnt even seen them. it was totally non threatening or remotely aggressive but...
All of a sudden, the dad whips off his Jets cap and gives it to his wife to hold !! My kids were cracking up - she did have the good grace to give him a filthy look but said nothing. Her hero :-)
i saw no one giving them a hard time after the game - quite unlike the crap that happened in the carpark at EAS

Thats not luck. These boys have worked their arses off for the past 10 months on the field and in the community to achieve that result last night. We won a local derby, in a semi final infront of a shitload of people. Well done lads you've done us all proud

Who cares if we didn't play well in most games of that importance they're crap. Would you rather we played well and got beaten??
Stop your whinging we won. ( drew anyway)
Grind them out boy's Grind them out.
There's no way you can blame Danny for the Goal world class strike.

Agree with most sentiments here.
I have no problem with any of the boys. Some of the passing and options weren't the best but I put it down to the Jets. They came to play and make it difficult, they kept Andre out of the game and we were never going to do another 4-1 with the opposition that fired up.
No problems with Danny on their goal either. The shot should have been closed down but it's just the way the ball fell, and a dipping volley on the underside of the bar is just a good shot. As was said, Danny cant stand on his line all night. There have been other saves he couldnt have made without giving himself a few yards forward so there's not much to be done. Our defence wasn't exactly breached for the goal so that's a positive.
In the end the match was close, gritty, and physical, yet both teams had a real crack at attacking til the end. Money covered up their weaknesses well in my opinion (dragging Corbo after 60 minutes for example) and it was just down to the moments that would decide the match. We missed some easy headers and so did they, and Heff made a game saving tackle in the first half then popped up for the goal and that was enough to swing it our way.

I dont think to many people are worried about our performance. Most of us have been watching the mariners play all year and we know that sometimes we turn on outstanding performances and sometimes we dont. The oppositions style of play is going to have a pretty big influence on that (as it did last night). Its all part & parcel of the game.
I am only sorry we didnt get to play one of those open free flowing dominant 4-1 displays that we put on a couple of weeks ago. These are the displays that will bring people back in there droves. I just hope that the new uninitiated supporter wont be to critical. (Maybe i am just analysing it too much)
It was a fantastic night just the same. I always wanted to know what a near capacity crowd would sound like when we scored.
