Problem with replacing Porter or Boogard is that we have to have two players under 20.

pfffft striker9 if we lost spencer we would not only lose our catpain, but we would lose one of the SMARTEST players on the field and a role model. He hasn't had a great start to the season, but nik mrdja hasn't played in a year, why aren't you criticising him?. Spencer is an awesome player so pull your head in.

Awesome at backpassing perhaps.......... come on Nomes, put your Spenny bias aside for a second and admit that he's got some sort of a "I can't be dropped" guarantee, just because he's the captain. I'm not debating that when he's good, he can be great, but at the moment, he's lost a bit of that attacking spark. He's more Frank Lampard than Ronaldinho attacking wise at the moment.

Did i not just agree that he has had a shit season? Stevie Wonder could see spenny has had a bad start to this season, I have had enough of dick heads criticising him though, not just spenny, Kwassie even. They do one bad thing and it's like the end of the world. We're meant to be supporting our team till the end not bagging them out. It's disgusting to hear people putting shit on them constantly in Bay 16. Yeah fair enough if they do someting bad bag them out, but to an extent, this goes on every single game and im sick of it hey.

Fair enough, I understand where you're coming from, and I support the Mariners to the end as well, which is why I'm so concerned. My main problem is that most teams around the world which have players wildly out of form tend to demote them to the bench so that they might realise "oh, I'm playing badly, this is the kick in the arse I need to come good"...... now Mr. Kwasnik only got 5 minutes on Friday night, so we're not too sure if his demotion has worked yet, although for the sake of the team I hope it does, 'cause someone's going to have to step into Mori's shoes if we can't keep him. Yhank goodness we've got Gumps coming back soon - Tommy and Gumps firing together again, Petrie out on the left providing quality service to Hutcho and Kwasnik...... now if Mr. Spencer was demoted for a game or two, perhaps he might go "oh, shit, I'm on the bench because...." and then figure out what he has and hasn't been doing this year, 'cause I would _love_ to see our holding midfielder back to his best.

I have just got back in the country but have been watching all the games with a keen eye and am glad to hear that I am not the only one who has noticed the decline of Spenny. Would have to agree with nomes and say he brings a lot to the team off the field but IMO must be dropped asap due to crap form. Also is Browny injured at the moment or just not getting a start. Cheers.

Because he hasn't been signed for the rest of the season, and at this stage only signed as injury cover for Nick Mrjda. mrjda still a month away. called past the tongue this morn and they were still training so dropped in.

You shouldn't criticise spencer. He hasn't had the best start to the season but he is meant to be a really good leader and is well liked amongst the players. I just think that sometimes leadership qualities should be taken into consideration which is what has happened here.

Fearless prediction: This Friday Spenny to conduct the midfield like von Karajan in front of an orchestra. Mariners 5-1.

Read in the Telegraph (hmmmm, none too trustworthy, but it's good news) Football Fever section today that Mori is set to be extended for another three weeks as cover for Gumps 'cause his knees are still that length of time away from being ready.
Anyone able to confirm?? (I've learnt to distrust the Telegraph a lot)

I also read it in the paper, so yes, i can confirm it was there.
Cant confirm if its true or not though.
Someone should break Kwas' knees so we can keep Mori as long as we want. Until he dies, I guess. And as for Spenny, well, he's smart, he can direct his troops, sure, but due to his form he's only directing 10, and danny tends to do his own thing anyway. AND, if he is so smart, why are we only just now winning games?
Even though he is well liked, his ability is being seriously questioned right now. I have a feeling that practically any of the mariners could step into the captaincy without a major, or even minimal loss of squad cohesion.
Bottom line: If Spenny continues to misfire, his captaining ability is nowhere near good enough to warrant keeping him on the feild, when we could get someone else in to start kicking some balls.
it might help if we stop asking him to kick it to us in bay 16 too.

.......... his captaining ability is nowhere near good enough to warrant keeping him on the feild Absolutely right. For example, the Road subed Chad Gibson quite a few times and that didn't have a detremental effect on the team!

I clearly didnt blame mrdja for getting injured. It was an example. I see where your coming from. Theres obviously a reason Lawrie is keeping him on the field, and keeping him captain. He knows he has ability, i dont know why that ability isnt showing on the field. But i can tell you dropping him is not the answer.

If Spencer wasnt there (dropped/injured/suspended or whatever) who would play the holding MF role???
I think Clarkie (possibly) or Vidmar.
Back 4 of Sully, Wilko,Stringers & Viddie with Clark sweeping in front - might work.
To be fair to Spencer, even while he is absolute pony at the moment he isnt hiding and I would retain him for that very reason.

Tomasevic could possibly play there. he has before for us! Isn't Mile Jedinak replacing Gumps?

For the record the other players to have played holding midfield for us are Tomasevic, who did OK against Roar this year, Sully, who had a blinder when he had to play there last year for just one game, and Ossie, who played most of this year's pre-season there while Spencer was injured.
I don't really think Clarky could play there because he doesn't have the passing game, and Viddie isn't really due for a midfield start. Maybe 10 years ago. We need him at the back in any case.
As for hypothetical stand-in captains, Vidmar has captained this fine country before and I also think Clarky would make a fine skipper.
But I think Spencer has picked up a notch or two in a team that's improved dramatically around him and he will resume in midfield for the forseeable future.
