It's Tuesday...and barely 50 hours til kickoff? It doesn't feel right does it?
What are people's thoughts on a Thursday night game and our possible crowd?
I'd prefer we didn't have midweek games, but I think the reasoning behind the game is that Foxtel gets decent viewership for it. We get much more money from them that from a few extra thousand tix sold so you've gotta do what you've gotta do.
Rather than complain I think it will be interesting to see what we pull, especially since we're lucky enough to get it during school hols. It will also be an interesting insight as to what we might expect should we ever have midweek Asian Champs League games here.
For the record, I say 8k.

For folks working it's a nightmare. Luckily there's school hols for this one, there maybe some folks attend who otherwise couldn't. If the FFA is gunna run these and /or Monday night games, they have to understand that the clubs can't be held accountable for a lack of crowd. And depending upon the number of Thursday night games a club gets over a season, that 10K figure they quote as a benchmark is gunna have to be flexible in the FFA's assessment of a club's crowds. I think it would be fair for a club to hold it's hand out for more share of the Foxtel pie if they are going to have to put these midweek games ona more regular basis. The Asian Champs games are a different story, I believe. They are a step above the A-League games and whilst played midweek, will generate enough interest to hopefully get some more folks out to the game. I'd be surprised if we get near 8K for this game against NZ, Tiger. In fact, anything over 5k would be a result for the club.

It's funny how well it works in Europe but over here it's been a bit............ well, not quite sure what the word is. I wouldn't say total failure, but it hasn't really set the league alight. I think that Australia is too set in their ways of "Sport = Friday, Saturday, Sunday", and that's it. Having said that, this is a tough one to predict numbers wise - we could have every parent and teenager on the coast say "school holidays, not much else to do on a Thursday, this sokkah caper looks alright innit??", or no-one except the core group of 6000 could show up.
If every random decides to give it a go, I reckon we might crack 10k. If not, probably around the 5500, 6000 mark. Either way, I know that Bay 16 will be there, quite possibly going mental because of the importance of it all. *bites fingernails*

Thank goodness for flex leave and rostered days off!
A day with my wife on the Coast if nice weather.
Also my younger ones are a) a teacher, b) students less likely to be called in to work at the local club.
Hoping for 6K+

I hate Thursday games, thank god I got Friday off work so it will still feel like my weekend! As stated above, we are lucky it's school holidays so we may still pull a half decent crowd, plus the weather is predicted to be hot and fine.
I think we will see 7k - 8k
Midweek games work well in europe for a number of reasons, but the main 1's IMO is that the game is so big over there it's a lot of peoples passion and would do anything to watch their team, we don't have that mentality over here yet. Plus the season itself is so long that fitting all the games in means midweek fixtures are a necessity.

Why the Thursday night game anyway?
Was it to save KFC going home after Sunday and then having to come back to Australia the weekend after?

I'd say also, that the demand for weekend tix would create a waiting list for some games in Europe/UK. So those that can't get tix for their weekend games, might get a crack at a mid week game?

OK so that maybe the reason, but the A-League does have a large deal with them, so that means that Foxtel can have their say a fair bit. We needed the $$ and guaranteed airtime /exposure and this is the price all clubs have to pay, I guess. But the FFA better take the low attendances a Thursday night game may bring, into account when they sum up the performances of the clubs at the season's end. I can also imagine the players feeling a little like Tiger stated...not quite right. They won't play too many Thursday night games throughout a season, and their whole routine must be changed around for it. Hopefully the Mariners will be awake when the kickoff whistle goes off!

Hopefully the Mariners will be awake when the kickoff whistle goes off! part of being a professional footballer is being able to deal with this IMO. Fox determine when games are played, when players walk out into the tunnel and when they run onto the pitch. The main negative as stated is that the FFA have to accept the fact that Thursday games will get poorer crowds at every HAL venue. In saying that however, that's not fair for the clubs invloved as at the end of the day they are a business and want to make as much money as possible.

From my understanding the NYE and NYD games will not be part of the diet either.
They fall midweek and the FFA is having trouble arranging the draw

They fall midweek and the FFA is having trouble arranging the draw Looks very easy to me: games on each of Saturday 29, Sunday 30, and the school (and most others I suspect) holiday Monday 31st (here of course), and Tues 1st! Have previous weekend of 21-23/12 off. Send the consultants cheque to the Marinators account Matt!
