Considering last year we would have got around 5-6,000 people to this game it's an improvement on our core supporters outside the "Marinators".

Considering it was a nothing game for us and the heat, i think 8,000 is pretty damn good.

Nothing game, heat, and been a while since we've had a win - I'm happy with the numbers.

And a lot of yellow - shows the base numbers have hit 8,000 - no-one was there because nothing else was on - hey the steamers and singing from bay 16 looked great people!

It was last minute thing for the trip to the game last night. Was thinking about not comming due to the heat, but son & I went simply because, it was the last game and wanted to show the support. Top effort to all who made the effort because of the heat.
Was really nice to Danny, Vuko, Hutcho and Simon take the time to meat the kids before and after the game. That was a really nice guys top marks there...

8128 was a good turnout for the following reasons 1) F3 closed and ttraffic disruptions caused by bushfires. (even the refs had trouble getting thru and the game was delayed for 1/2 hr. because of this.) 2) Very hot day and no sign of a cool change (would you leave your air conditioned home for a sweaty seat in the stands?) 3) Game had no importance to the Mariners. 4) All the emphasis of this round was on the Jets v Melbourne and Sydney v Qld, in the media. Some folks may not have even known there was a Mariners match on! The club can take solace from the fact that their core support crowd has probably risen from 5 - 6 K to 7 - 8 K in one season. More than just "wives and girlfriends only" eh, Fisherman? (Unless the single Mariners players have been very busy lads in the off match days & nights ;D)
A good season next season will mean that the core is likely to rise, within that good season, to about 10 K - which means that the Mariners can be assured of half filling the stadium every match. How good would that be in only 3 seasons, in a totally new market?

I had an interesting afternoon. I left the cricket in Bathurst at 3pm, and got to Pearce's Corner at 5.38pm. Got diverted onto the Highway, got to Asquith Station and was stopped from going further. Not happy, Jan. Actually, spewing is a more accurate description, as it was, sadly, our last game for a while.
So, I drove back home, where the Merrinator was in her usual state, asleep, and proceeded to watch the game on TV.
Sounded GREAT early, but not our best of nights, I'm afraid.

I had six people in my car and we had to turn back because of the fires.
Wonder how many more would have turned if if not for the fires.
My son was gutted that he missed the last match.
Pretty good crowd considering IMHO

After reading the first 8 posts in this thread, I have come to the conclusion that 8,000 was pretty good considering it was hot and a meaningless game.

. agree the crowd was bloody good considering . i had also heard a lot of people were stuck on the f3 and also so that didn't push on because they would have missed a fair bit based on the advertised start time . the sad thing in terms of growing the base crowd was the performance on the field . for the first time i saw mariners supporters (season ticket holders) leaving the game early with comments like 'i am paying to watch this ....' . it is these type of people which may not feature too much next year with a bad memory of the last game (or four), will they be signing up for another season ticket? . i hope this is not the case - but i suspect there were a few that signed for the season based on the success of the previous season

I'm a season ticket holder and I'll be back. Same with all those that sit close around me in bay 6.

with a crowd of 8,000 odd there wouldnt have been many "casual" supporters there. If you are going to play shit you want as small an audience as possible :-)
