"Council considers Wade Park watering exemption

Orange City Council says the drought has made the field at Wade Park hard and dry and if it is not watered ahead of a rugby league sevens tournament it could put the competition in doubt.
The council will tonight consider a proposal to waive restrictions and allow the football field to be watered leading up to the tournament.
The Orange Hawks will be hosting the seven-a-side rugby league tournament at Wade Park later this month.
The council's manager for city presentation, Nigel Hobden, says the competition will benefit the local economy, but approval to water the football field is essential to its success.
"If the ground is deemed to be too hard a lot of teams that would come would certainly be concerned about ... being at the start of the season, the conditions and possible injuries to their players," he said.
Mr Hobden says because the field is not an active playing surface during summer, watering is not allowed under level two restrictions.
"We're requesting that council provide permission for our curator at Wade Park to water the football field under his discretion in the lead up to that game," he said.
The condition of Wade Park is also under scrutiny because the Central Coast Mariners Soccer Club has indicated it wants to return to Orange this year and hold an A-league pre-season cup match on the field."
