Crikey, I nearly choked on my toast this morning.
ABC Radio's AM programme had a segment on the Asian Champions League. Talking about Adelaide's chances, they interviewed Adelaide's caretaker coach, 'Tony Vidmar'.
Whaaaat?
Can someone please tell 'em it's Aurelio and not Tony, and to stop giving me heart attacks at 6:10 in the morning?
Cheers.

Dont you also love the ABC's stubborn use of the word "sokka" Much as I admire the ABC, its attitude towards sport remains snobby and elitist. Sokka is the sport of the unwashed masses from the streets of the world's slums. It wouldn't do for educated liberal thinkers to get involved with that sort of thing. Nor even the stubborn, rednecked fossils like David Lord who reads or used to read the sport (golf, tennis, cricket) on ABC Newsradio. Next to his contempt for football are his enormous gaffes, such as referring on-air to a ''Nigger in the Woodpile''. Maybe you can see why they made the mistake though. They almost look like identical twins!

They almost look like identical twins! i listen to newsradio obsessively, and they refer to football as football probably as often as not. the website refers to football as football, and both debbie spillane and alan gaskill are fantastic with giving live and overnight scores, news, updates and all the rest. lord i am no fan of, too much cricket, golf and rugby out of him, though that's not a surprise given he's a king's school educated mosmanite. can't pronounce a thing (guillermo sounds like jermo rather than gill-yeah-mo) and sounds... i dunno... snuffly on air. but i reckon in certain circumstances when flicking between news of different codes it's quite appropriate to remove ambiguity.

What did they think about Adelaide missing John Aloisi through injury?

watching the game last night and i was thinking how great it would be for adelaide to have the two vidmars as head coach and assistant coach
one vidmar is an ex-attacker and one an ex-defender so their experiences and skills would complement each other

Both Aloisi's on the field probably wouldn't hurt either. Well actually, perhaps just one.

you would think they would make a great combo, however i would prefer the combo of mckinna/fergo/tobin/vidmar/crawley/clark/petrie!!!

Yeah, the only time David Lord sounds any good is when he's voicing those lewd ads for used car salesman 'Frosty LaHood' for Roy and HG! On most ABC radio programs, though (like Grandstand and The Sports Factor), most presenters are pretty careful to call our game by its proper name. I guess that because the Tony Vidmar and 'sokka' gaffes appeared on a non-sporting show, and a show which goes national, we can forgive them. But just this once.

Pfft Death to the ABC, sorry I'm still angry about a comment they made on the radio about a mental illness. And you know, Backberner was so awesome.

And you know, Backberner was so awesome. come on omni, being just a *little* extreme there? compared to the absolute tripe served up by the three commercial networks on a daily basis (particularly today tonight/ACA) the abc can do practically no wrong. not to mention in radio land the fact that people like steve price and ray hadlee are still able to draw a salary... the abc's got nothing on them for dodgy. who's the 'they', and what was the comment?

Oh Dibs, I was actually referring to ABC Radio, if you want to know what was said send me a PM, I won't mention it here.
I have fox, I don't need to watch the tripe served up on the networks.

I also listen to Newsradio (why no FM is Sydney??) and David Lord is enough cause to sell the bastards to Uncle Rupert/Macquarie radio.
At least "All things considered" from NPR makes me believe that there are at least a few dozen seppo's who seem pretty normal :-)

I also listen to Newsradio (why no FM is Sydney??) and David Lord is enough cause to sell the bastards to Uncle Rupert/Macquarie radio. that's going a little far... on the flip side, one of the things i really like about the abc is that they use the non-commercial names for venues - kardinia park, football park, docklands, penrith stadium, sydney football stadium... etc. At least "All things considered" from NPR makes me believe that there are at least a few dozen seppo's who seem pretty normal sadly NPR seems to be in the minority. hey, for a larf, hop onto conservapedia and have a look around. it's meant to be (in their words) a much-needed alternative to Wikipedia, which is increasingly anti-Christian and anti-American. On Wikipedia, many of the dates are provided in the anti-Christian "C.E." instead of "A.D.", which Conservapedia uses. Christianity receives no credit for the great advances and discoveries it inspired, such as those of the Renaissance. yet the level of pure ignorance on there is just hilarious. check this out: Gravity is considered by scientists and evolutionists to be one of the fundamental forces of the universe. It is a theory which suggests that all masses are attracted to each other because of invisible particles called gravitons or invisible curves in space. The idea was first developed by Isaac Newton, and has been worked on by prominent scientists like Johannes Kepler and Albert Einstein. not that gravity is a scientific law (meaning it's been tested* to scientific exhaustion and is simply one of the most robust ideas in all of science). not that we rely on gravity's rules being right when we send astronauts into orbit or probes to mars... instead that it's a 'theory' (which is a stronger word than they think it is anyway) held by [spit] scientists and [spit spit] evolutionists. and that's the whole entry! clowns. i.e. people have tried to disprove it. a lot. and failed.
