CENTRAL COAST MARINERS FOOTBALL CLUB MEDIA RELEASE, SATURDAY 31 MARCH 2007 OUTSTANDING VUKOVIC CLAIMS MARINERS MEDAL
Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Danny Vukovic was awarded the Mariners’ top honour – the Mariners Medal, at last night’s second annual Mariners Medal Dinner at Mingara Recreation Club.
Vukovic, 21, was selected by his teammates as the player of the season, having shown maturity and character beyond his years throughout a challenging season for the Central Coast.
Vukovic started all but one of the Mariners’ 21 Hyundai A-League matches in 2006/07, recording seven clean sheets in such time, in addition to two shutouts from six starts in the Pre-Season Cup.
Vukovic made a Hyundai A-League record 91 saves throughout the regular season, some 27 more than his nearest rival, Robert Bajic of Adelaide United.
Over two Hyundai A-League campaigns, Vukovic has now registered 170 saves – more than any other custodian that has made an appearance since the beginning of Australian football’s new era.
Presently, Vukovic is a lynchpin member of Australia’s Olympic Games qualification campaign, having started each of the Under 23’s five qualifying matches since early February.
With several qualification matches still to be played in the coming months, on top of a sprinkling of senior international fixtures ahead July’s Asian Cup, fringe Socceroo Vukovic is sure to be seen in green and gold many more times before returning to Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium for version three of the Hyundai A-League.
"Danny is clearly one of Australian football’s most outstanding prospects and it goes without saying that he has a massive future ahead of him," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.
"At just 21 years of age, to have received such recognition from his peers is an outstanding achievement."
"Danny is a fine asset to our club and we’re excited to be assisting him with the progression of his already amazing career. Put simply, the football world is at his feet."
Other winners from the evening were striker Adam Kwasnik, whose seven regular season goals earned him the Golden Boot award, while Tom Pondeljak’s inventive back heel against the Perth Glory in Round 9 was voted by the Marinators, the Mariners’ vocal supporters group, as the goal of the season.
The Chairman’s Award, which recognises an outstanding contribution to the club from either a player or staff member, was awarded to Gear Steward Joe Spiteri.
Symbolically, new Mariners signing Sasho Petrovski was present last night’s event, as the Central Coast officially closed the curtain on season two and welcomed the challenges of season three.
"Tonight was symbolic in that it was the last major event for our club in relation to our 2006/07 Hyundai A-League season," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.
"Although we’ve been planning for the forthcoming season for some time, we can now draw a line in the sand and accelerate our campaign for silverware in season three.
"Our squad is starting to come together and, off the field, we’re continuing to achieve some significant milestones.
"The positive energy at Mingara last night was overwhelming and I very much echo that enthusiasm in regards to our prospects for season three."

Congrats to all winners - it was a great night and I'll put a few photo's on marinators.net in the next few days. Marinators Player of the Season was based on the 321 votes all year, Kwassy had the most number of votes Well Done Kwassy - we look forward to an even better year in V3

That 321 system makes more sense than 442's system for Bolten... Thought that Vukovic deserved the Mariners medal - was outstanding and kept scorelines for us respectable instead of humiliating in certain matches.

I've put a few snaps up on marinators.net Are these the photo's you took DJ?? given that DJ is in a couple of them, and I know that he took the photo of me, fish and bear, i am guessing some are his and some are of the official photographer great photos all round i like the progression in the rosiness of bear's cheeks as the night when on you are able to put the photos in cronological order according to the redness

Ok, i'm probably about to put my foot right in it, but I don't remember having the photo with Kwassie and Danny.
I remember everything else, I swear, just not that.
