Hey all, as you know I edit on Wikipedia and often pull bits of info off it and put them on here. As was noted here it’s not always the be-all and end-all of accurate info. For this reason, I want to encourage people to get in and fix it up – if there is info on any of the Mariners’ pages that is inaccurate, you can fix it, elaborate upon it and otherwise improve it.
The Mariners club page and List of Central Coast Mariners FC players has been brought up to ‘Featured Article’ standard largely thanks to the work of Daniel Bryant, a former Umina resident and member of this forum. FA status means it’s one of the best articles in all of Wikipedia. It’d be great if the other articles around it were brought up to anywhere near the same standard.
Editing Wikipedia is easy – basically, on any page you can click the ‘edit this page’ tab, and change it. If you see something on one of the Mariners pages that is wrong, jump right on in and give it a spit and polish.
The Central Coast Mariners FC and List of Central Coast Mariners FC players pages are up to a god standard, but definitely feel free to jump in and add to them.
Other pages that need (much) more work are the
various individual player pages, as well as the 2005-6 2006-7 and 2007-8 season pages, and the stadium page could probably do with some work too.
I figure there are people on here who are probably really interested in various of the players and probably know more about them than some of the rest of us - if this sounds like you, you can make sure your favourite player has justice done to them on Wikipedia!
It’s easy to start – one of my first edits was to delete the sentence “Stewart is an old man” and instead add that he shared the golden boot, and added the ‘super, super stu’ song.
While it’s not saving the world or anything, it’s good to have good quality info available to interested people in Wikipedia, because when people first hear of our club or our players, chances are Wikipedia is one of the first places they look for info. If we can give them lots of good info, it makes the club look better. This means that a potential sponsor or South American recruit or their agent might look us up and think ‘hey, what great entries – people obviously care a lot about this club – might be worth a look’. Or even simply if you;ve got mates overseas who want to learn a bit about the Mariners, if we’ve got really good pages they’ll get a better idea of what it’s all about.
But it’s only as good as you make it. So jump on in!
