THUNDER SQUAD ANNOUNCED 29 May 2007
Central Coat Football have announced the squad of selected players from the local Premier League to tackle the Hyundai A-League's Central Coast Mariners in the Charity Plate. This event is to be held annually, and presents an excellent opportunity for local players to come under the auspicies of both the Mariners and Lightning Coaching staff for possible pathways into professional football.
Alan Hackett, Lightnings Senior Reserves Coach, has been appointed to guide the "Thunder" in their quest against the Mariners. Hackett is given the job due to his local knowledge of players and his long experinece in club and representative football.
Last year the Charity Plate was played between the Mariners and Lightning, however it was decided that local players should have the opportunity of mixing it with Australia's professional league players in this clash.
The Marinesr faced Central Coast Lightning in April in the Challenge Cup defeating the local boys 2 - nil, and will be using the Charity Plate as preparation for the upcoming season and to finalise thier playing roster.
The Thunder Squad is: Shannon Verkade, Conrad Milne (SEU), Nathan Byrn, Brent Rogers (KDS), Justin Swadling, Matthew Page, Matthew Kenny (ENT), Andrew French, David Brewer (UMI), Mark Falzon, Keelan Austen, Andrew Bull, Trevor Shute (WYM), Benjamin Glachan, Zachory Wallis (BUD), Maddison Spence, Eric Koelma (TER), Scott Horvatt (OUR), David Graham (BER), John McKellar, Michael Coates (EGO)
The match is sheduled to be played at Pluim Park on Saturday, 9 June at 5pm.

Off the Mariner's Website...
Central Coast Mariners captain Alex Wilkinson is eagerly anticipating the challenge of the Central Coast Select Team, dubbed the Thunder in this Saturday’s third annual Central Coast Charity Plate at Pluim Park.
Wilkinson, the youngest player ever to captain a Hyundai A-League side, has only recently returned from Hong Kong where he guided a young Mariners outfit to the final of the Philips Lighting Soccer 7’s.
Having been so integral to the Mariners’ stellar performances abroad, Wilkinson is excited at the prospect of being joined by some of his more senior counterparts for the Central Coast’s second hit out since returning to full training a fortnight ago.
Saturday’s match is the Mariners’ first since trouncing Asian Cup co-hosts Malaysia 3-0 at Pluim Park in late May, with Wilkinson contributing 56 minutes to the Central Coast’s convincing win on that occasion.
"It’s good to be back – the Hong Kong experience was great, the boys did very well and I think the experience did us the world of good, but it’s good to be back in the cooler air," said Wilkinson.
"We’ve picked up training the last couple of weeks and we’ve got a couple of games coming up, starting on Saturday at Pluim Park and then pretty much every week from then on until the Pre-Season Cup.
"We were at Pluim Park a couple of weeks ago against Malaysia and we got a good 3-0 win, let’s hope we can score a few more goals this weekend and use the match for a good fitness hit out."
Saturday night’s match at Pluim Park marks the third occasion of the annual Central Coast Charity Plate.
The Mariners will take on a local selection made up of the best players from the Central Coast Premier League and will be hoping to claim the Charity Plate for a third consecutive time.
The two previous Charity Plate editions have resulted in 3-0 and 2-0 wins to the Mariners respectively.
"It’s a great chance for the local players to get a game against the Mariners," said Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna.
"It’s great preparation for us – you can’t beat playing games.
"Also, it’s a great opportunity for the Central Coast Lightning to have a look at some of the best players from the local Premier League, as well as a good way to raise some money for Charity."
The third annual Central Coast Charity Plate takes place at Pluim Park, Lisarow, this coming Saturday, 9 June. Kick off is at 5pm and all proceeds from the match will be donated to the Central Coast Community Chest.
Mariners Memberships are available for purchase on the night from the Mariners Membership marquee, located at the canteen end of Pluim Park.

they were having shots against him and everytime they would score comments like "good effort thunder", "that's crap thunder" and "hope you don't keep like that for thunder" would come out
