I would like to start a serious discussion with a view to naming the 'home end' of Bluetongue.
In the same way that the Cove, the Gate, the Den, etc name their areas, it's time for us to look in this direction.
'The Marinators' will still be the core supporters who stand and sing, but the name of the entire northern concourse will encapsulate various ways of supporting the team vocally and visually.
I have posted the thread in this section because this could be the start of a legacy, and it is therefore relevant to all fans.
Options that have been previously floated are things like
The Bay The Beach The Marina (pron. Mareena) The Dock The Wharf The Jetty The Shore etc
A nautical theme makes sense due to the name of the team and the position and shape of the stadium acting like an inlet off Brisbane water.
People should keep in mind that we may also get naming rights to the Kendall Bar, although the CCLC would have the final say in that. Something like the 'Submariner' for the K-Bar might be worthwhile to avoid clashing with one of the above.
Fire away.

Other options could be Quarterdeck or the Bridge or other parts of ships or boats

i really like 'the dock' - it's got that double meaning as well, i.e.
q- what do you call a marinator in a suit a- the accused

Why not keep it simply as Bay 16, IMHO keeps it simple something that can be associated with the Mariners and doesn't sound to wanky or pretentious.

My preference is for the dock, or more specifically the docks, then we can nickname the alcohol free bay the dry dock ;D As for the Kendall I like "The drunken sailor". Doubt it would be accepted by the leaguesy but it's my suggestion. I've always liked pubs or bars with an unusual name stuff like the "crown and anchor", "the mean fiddler" or "the friend in hand" Maybe something like Kendalls anchorage keeps a bit of tradition in the name but as they say any port in a storm.

Options that have been previously floated are things like: The Bay The Bay - done and dusted! On a tangent - I would like to see Marinators branding widening over time, as we move out (as we are) into other parts of the ground, whilst still retaining the Bay (build around Bay 16) - something I will bring up in the strategic planning. Eg. All Marinators, but sub branding Bay Marinators, Western Marinators, Eastern Marinators, Platinum Marinators (wouldn't that be good!), Far Marinators (for those in Tassie and O/S etc.), and as I move into a retirement village one day - the Ancient Marinators! ;D I'd like to see 30% of the stadium Marinators (not the club (needed as it is) , but just Marinators as we started). We'd need half a dozen club captains Brett - know anyone into cloning?

There are other ways around the overcrowding/safety issues in Bay 16 without having to give a name to the end. Regardless of what name is given people are always going to want to be in Bay 16. If a name must be given prehaps just "The Bay" being a extension (bay) of Brisbane Waters

Forgive me if I sound a bit plain, but arent we called the Marinators. Seems to be getting around a bit that name. Im sure I heard commentators using it last year on fox.
I like the names but, as im always on Brissy water in my boat.

The Poop Deck?
I agree with Blackadder, I hate names like the cove and the gate. Bay 16 is what its always been. Everyone has said "See you in bay 16" before a game. I'd cringe if I had to say, see you in "the wharf". If the name changes it should be through something organic not a forced vote or anything.

the bay - the stadium is sitting right on a bay and it also suggests the heritage of bay 16 and its growth into surrounding bays to become simply "the bay"

Bay 16 is smalltime thinking.
As long as we say 'see you in bay 16' people will always want to be in bay 16. We need to get past that if we want to grow (we do want that, right???).
Grunta: not forcing a vote - let's just see where there this thread goes

OK, well "the bay" does sound the best. But seriously we need to think about quality too, not just quantity. Because at the moment more than half "the bay" doesn't sing!

the bay is a pretty simple solution that gets past the 'bay 16' thing, and annoys people as little as possible.

Because at the moment more than half "the bay" doesn't sing! yep, totally agreed. the solution to that won't come from naming or not naming our area though. getting more people singing will partly involve us getting into the ground early (maybe an hour before might be necessary - it'll cost you a little bit in beer money, but we'll be tighter and louder) but also simply getting out there and encouraging people and ensuring everyone knows what we're singing and knows to join in. but that's for another thread...

The Bay just seems a natural progression from "Bay 16" less difficult to get used to and also mean less re-branding of banners etc because if we re-name it say "the wharf" for example, our "Bay 16" signs may be useless. Kev: Love the re-branding but i like Foriegn marinators better

Bay 16 to either change to "the bay" or stay the same.
K bar to change to "the captains quarters".

It should be known that part of the reason for this is that there is the opportunity to have a couple of hundred shirts supplied by a sponsor into the home end. Not Marinators shirts specifically, just home end. Free of charge to fans, distributed by the Marinators in a 'chuck a yellow shirt at everyone from bay 14-18' type fashion.
Even though I personally think it is a natural progression for us at this time, this offer gives us a unique opportunity to 'brand' the home end with ease. Put 'The Bay' or whatever on the shirts, and suddenly that's what the end is called.
We can't put Marinators on the shirts because not everyone who wears them will be marinators. We can't put bay 16 on them because this will stretch much further than just bay 16. It's time to define the behind the goals fans, not just the standing ones, as a whole.
