First, I would like to say what a great honour it is to be named captain of the Central Coast Mariners for the coming season. I am looking forward to leading the boys in what I hope will be a successful year both on and off the pitch.
I feel the team is shaping up very well and think we can be a real force in the 2007-08 Hyundai A-League.
We would love to qualify for the finals again and go a step farther than season one, with a win in the grand final and to qualify for the Asian Champions League.FOR season three there are several new faces on the park. The coaching staff has recruited well and new boys in the squad will add depth to a strong Mariners line-up.
Sasho Petrovski and Greg Owens join us this year. They not only score goals but set up scoring opportunities for others. With a fully-fit Nik Mrdja, they will be of huge benefit to the team.
Mile Jedinak has joined us full time this year, after a short stint with the club last season.
Dean Heffernan has returned after a season abroad. Heff scored some vital goals in our first season and it is great to have him back.
We have also signed promising young goalkeeper and Central Coast boy Andrew Redmayne from the Australian Institute of Sport.
The boys are looking forward to the Pre-Season Cup against Wellington Phoenix tomorrow night. All the boys are in good shape and it would be great to get off to a winning start this weekend, although I am predicting a tough game.
The Phoenix has recruited very well and will be looking for a good start to its first season with all players fighting for regular starting berths.
In saying that, I am confident we can continue our recent good form in trial matches and go one better than last year by winning the cup.
