Central Coast Mariners fans have raised $12,000 for 2GO’s Give Me 5 For Kids charity by donating at the Mariners’ opening Pre-Season Cup match against the Wellington Phoenix at Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium.
Mariners fans attending the game were encouraged to donate a gold coin upon entry to the stadium and with 8,136 people at the game, the generosity of the Central Coast people was overwhelming.
All money raised in the 2GO Give Me 5 For Kids appeal, including the $12,000 raised by Mariners fans will go to the Gosford Hospital Children’s Ward.
Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna thanked the members of the Central Coast Mariners Football Club for their support for the cause.
"The Members have been fantastic in their support for this great cause and we thank those of the Central Coast supporters who donated to this charity," said McKinna.
"It was a great night overall, a great crowd and I am sure everyone enjoyed it."
2GO General Manager Mark McNulty thanked the Mariners for adding an extra bonus to the total of this years appeal.
"On behalf of Central Coast Radio and 2GO Give Me 5 For Kids campaign, our extended thanks goes to the Mariners for allowing us the opportunity to fundraise over $12,000 by donating their pre season game to Give Me 5 For Kids," said McNulty.
"Without the support of volunteers from the radio station, Gosford Hospital and the Mariners, we wouldn’t have achieved this outstanding result. Our thanks goes to those local supporters that braved the cold and watched the Mariners triumph over Wellington.
"Not only do we get behind and support a local team, that local team also supports the Central Coast Community."
The Mariners’ 2007 Pre-Season Cup campaign continues this Sunday, 29 July, when they return to the nation’s capital following their brief sojourn one month ago to take on southern rivals Sydney FC at Canberra Stadium. Kick off is at 3pm.
Those unable to make it to the match can listen to a live broadcast on Coast FM, 96.3, a broadcast that can also be sourced from www.coastfm.org.au – Coast FM’s official website.
Mariners Memberships for the Hyundai A-League 2007/08 season are now available for purchase online at www.ccmariners.com.au, or from Rebel Sports outlets at Erina and Tuggerah.
