yeah but if those close balls did go in would you feel any better? If anything Perth would have been ripped off because they played wonderfully. We looked extreemly tired probably due to a vigerious traning schedual and were beaten in pace all over the field. Perth are definatly a team we dont want to underestimate in v3. There were a few positives tho, Heaps more chances were taken, may not have gorn in but at least it is an improvement on last yeah where no one even took a chance, attempts by Gumpy, Hutch, sash o and Nik m were at least attempts. The only real problem i have is Danny, here is a man who is traning for the young soccer roos, suppose to be National talent playing worse then trotty against Adelaid. I can only conclude two things either he really didnt want to injure himself and was playing very carefully or he really doesnt want to go to IRAQ in fear of getting shot. Put that with the worst ref'ing since Mark Shield lol and it was a dissapointing game but oh well lads ON TO VERSION 3. see you all next week. apart from the terrible spelling you summed it up to a tee the boys looked flat because of their intense training schedule which is tapering to the sydney game round one despite being flat and some defensive errors we still created more chances than them and only lost 3-2 and what sort of crowd do you expect for a pre-season match? thought the crowd was decent considering too many unrealistic comments on this forum

yeah i agree with those comments, both my spelling and comments about the crowd were alittle rough. however at least i dont have a wife giving my grief about it. Not only was the crowd ok for a pre season match in the middle of winter they also sang. ok so there only 15 at least they were out of their seats and singing unlike previous years. It doesnt supprise me that the statium wasnt packed becase i went out after to the club and it was dead too for a saturday night. I think it was just too cold for people to go out.

Crowd was shit. Thats not an unrealistic comment at all. For a semi final in pre season, on a nice Saturday night, that was shit. I dread to think what happens if its also raining next weekend, where a 3rd/4th place playoff is even less significant, on a lazy Sunday afternoon. NZ will get a bigger crowd.

Great to see so many on here with the passion and high expectations. I personally was quite impressed (although obviously disapointed with the result) with some of the passes that were made by the boys. It showed me that the communication at times was very promising and I'm really looking forward to the season proper, no excuses then.

the boys looked flat because of their intense training schedule which is tapering to the sydney game round one I, like everyone else, would have liked to have seen the Mariners in the PSC Final, however, if their result was partially due to intense training in preperation to beating Sydney in the first game of the season, I'm okay with it.

For some strange reason, the undercover car park in Baker St (under the multi storey) is a reasonable indicator of likely crowds. I usually arrive about 1 hour or so before kick off and can get the crowd to about 1k depending on how full it is (sad I know).
As we parked on Saturday I told my daughters 6,00 tops.........I'm not normally that close mind you)
6pm on a Saturday excludes a lot of workers and a lot of people with Saturday sports committments.
Expect to be there pretty much on my own this Sunday TBH. Anything over 4k would be amazing.

As long as I am there with a couple of friends I don't care how many turn up. The real season is when it counts.
Also, has anyone YouTubed the highlights yet? I want to see Nik's free kick again

"Danny's kicking was woeful
Boogs - another assured performance. V calm, looks for the pass rather than the hoof
Nik - Awesome workrate, wonderful 2st touch
Saso - I will reserve comment, not the hardest worker is he?
Hutch - Injury didnt look good, he was is a lot of pain when he came off[/quote]
I Agree with you, but a bit harsh on Sasho...He's a poacher by nature, give him the mistake and he will capitalise on it, he's laready shown pieces of that. Someone I know saw hutch on sunday and said his knee was swollen up pretty big. Bloody sniper!!

The comment above about Wilko not stamping his personality on the game, I don't agree with. The guy went off at his midfield quite a few times, could be heard yelling at the top of his voice from row I. Nik's freekicks were awesome in power, but our #9 is hopefully full of other tricks in his bag other than the power game. Great to see Saso get a goal too, tho there was a suspicion about him being offside...nonetheless the assistant ref called more than not. Kwassi was quiet, Andre was running at angles towards Kwassi's wing - which in turn, I suspect, exposed the centre midfield a bit on counter attack from Perth, as only Jedinak was there to cover. If Andre is going to do this, Kwassi has to learn to cover Andre or one of the strikers come back into the centre midfield. The Perth player Rusta..whatever, he was fast and caused headaches for our defence. Boogs will have to start sprint training with Heff. Heff when he came on, was desperate to see some action. But I did notice a 'notchy' sort of gait to his walk, doesn't seem to impede his running and speed tho. Good to see him ignite the left side a fair bit. Hutch, is he OK? He was down for quite a while, the ref should have called the stretcher guys on. He was hobbling after a while tho, so maybe it's just a bad knock on the kneecap. Where was Lawrie?? Not in his usual spot on the sidelines so I'm guessing he was in the stands. I don't think he's won a match from the stands, or has he? To me, it was a case of wishing that last weeks Mariners turned up for this match too. Against Sydney, and given the run in the centre of the field, the passing and free running game was great to watch. This week was like the frustrations of last season, glimpses of good game but not enough to stamp the authority and control they needed. On the two weeks form, I would have preferred Trott to Danny. Danny needs to look seriously at his distribution, which is an area where Trott can be far more accurate. Kicks over the sideline are not good clearances by goalies at this level, and Trott also seemed more comfortable with the rolling ball in play than Danny (who skewed a few of them).

I think Danny was a bit concerned about his hair, especially with Heff warming up!

Boogs - another assured performance. V calm, looks for the pass rather than the hoof Hmm ... quite good, BUT it was he who did not clear the ball and allowed their first goal! Saso was NOT offside. I recorded TWG which had the goals and leadup highlights and I have replayed several times to check my report. Trip, who needs a wife to criticise your writing/spelling when we have Marinermick! I won't relay your chosen profession OK? ;D I gave my CCM player points to Matt Osman, who was just consistently good through the whole 96 mins.

I think we are all a bit paranoid from last season... We have lost bigger matches in a worse fashion than that one. We showed glimpses of our potential, and a few of our weeknesses as well. I thought we played some "some" good football, and could have had the game if it wasnt for some costly defensive errors. We all agree we were shown up in defence.
My wife doesnt like Danny's new do either....
Was good to hear Wilko (and you dint have to listen too hard!), boring it up the midfeild in the first half...He wasnt happy, and showed it...
Well done wilko!

The Ref Sir... the REF! some pretty bad calls made IMO, at least they are consistent with their peformance last year.
We all love to whinge about ref's but seriously, do we all think that was up to standard??
