gumpy was nullified by the best defensive midfielder in the comp (collosimo)
it was only when he went off that we started to get some genuine opportunities on goal
if he even realises a small percentage of his potential displayed a few years he will be the best player in this competition
likewise hyphen did a sterling job on kwasnik

The Ref Sir... the REF! some pretty bad calls made IMO, at least they are consistent with their peformance last year. We all love to whinge about ref's but seriously, do we all think that was up to standard?? Ben Williams is the worst ref in the A-League, all version, and before that one of the worst in the NSL. He gets a run because ... he's from the ACT and it's equal opportunity for the state feds .... can't have ACT not represented! My opinion anyway!

I think there are too many negatives on this forum about Nik and Sasho. Sasho is new to the team and still settling in. Nik has been out for two years and gradually getting his form back. Does it matter that he keeps hitting the side net from his free kicks? At least he is having a go. The goal he scored on Saturday night was nothing but superb. European football quality.
Lets give them a break for a while and let them find their peak form without us putting pressure on them.

Hilly - it's just consistancy, they bagged out Kwasnik, so it's only fair they Nik & Saso are bagged.
Perry Muir: I think he's a 4th official mainly these days

To be honest, I've not been overly impressed by the latter in any of the games I've seen him in so far (Blacktown, Wellington & Perth), but I'll give him more time before making a decision. As far as Mrdja is concerned, I can see gradual signs of improvement. We know he's a threat at set pieces, but I think he's also doing a better job at holding up the ball, and makes far more and better runs into space than Petrovski. All in all, still early days, but I think we'll all be watching the strikeforce, and hoping for a bit more of a threat as the season goes on.

The doubts on Mrdja are understandable ... the guy has hardly played since April 2003 ... we have only seen so much of him When he played for Glory in the 'football as you used to know it' NSL, he played as an impact player coming on for either Mori or Despotovski. He filled Mori's poacher role more easily but he could make a job of Bobby's provider role. Saso is an out and out poacher ... not in the centre circle to box Mori style but more the amble around until I get let free and if someone gives me the ball with space I'll knock it in style. As he did in the 92nd min on Saturday when a) he had space, b) he got the ball where he could play it.

At least we have two strikers this year...
I think they will gell well over time, I agree, too many doubters. How many games has Sasho played for us now? We all knew Sasho wasnt going to be the kind of striker to run his arse off, and we cant say that Mori did alot of running either.
The right place at the right time is his job.

yeah - sasho may look lazy, but he knows where the goal is. i expect to see a lot of that 'amble about and score when i can' kinda play out of him. quite frankly, if all we could have was either that or an action man all over the place player who scores half as often, i'd pick sasho.

Sasho hasn't really made an impact on me yet.
BTW, did anyone see Nik Mrdja on the NBN news last night buttering bread?? I couldn't stop laughing. The reporter was saying something about is concentration on and off the field. Hilarious.
