EXCLUSIVE: Mariners Sasho Petrovski says 'Super Mario' Jardel won't have it all his own way when the two hitmen cross paths in the octane-fueled F3 derby this season.
The arrival for the Jets of the brilliant Brazilian has caused a storm of interest in the Hunter.
And it's got Sasho fired up to prove he can outscore the brilliant Brazilian in the region's big game this season.
“Definitely I'll be looking to put one over on him,” Petrovski told au.fourfourtwo.com.
“But you know on the day I just hope we can try to stop him. It won't be up to me, it'll just be up to me to do what I do best.”
This bitter rivalry resumes on Sunday, October 7 at the Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford.
“Hopefully our defenders are on their game and close him up," said Petrovski.
"For me, while I was growing up and looking at him playing at all the clubs he's played at, I really fancied him as a top striker."
However, the former Sydney FC man has the utmost respect for the Brazilian who's just signed for Mariners' local rivals, the Jets.
“From what I've seen back in the days, he's brilliant," he added. "He's someone who I would try to learn from and try take a few things out of his game and want to use.
"He's everything. In the air his biggest asset is in the air and he scores great goals when he can rise above defenders to score with your heard. He's excellent.
"Just a very smart, clever player, like most Brazilians are. Hopefully he doesn't shed that many kilos and remains at a good steady pace for us to cope with him when we play them."
He added: "I've admired him for what he's done in the game. I'll watch his progress with great interest.
“I hope he doesn't get fully fit too quick. Hopefully he slowly eases his way in to the striker's position rather than hit it off with a bang.”
Petrovski – who has a knack of scoring at whichever club he's played for in a career in Australia and in Denmark with Viborg – says Jardel and his fellow Beazilians can only be good for the A-League.
“It's good for the fans I guess to have him," he said.
"It'll draw a lot of extra supporters behind the game to see how well they do against us and how they cope in the Australian game."
