Conway wiggles onto Mariners board
Mike Conway, the business leader of Australia’s most loved children’s entertainment foursome, The Wiggles, is the latest addition to the Central Coast Mariners’ board, and is a nominee of the club’s major shareholder Peter Turnbull.
Conway brings unique business acumen and a strong football passion to the Mariners’ already impressive board structure, in what is a further endorsement for the strong off-field presence the Mariners have established since their inception.
In the six years since joining The Wiggles, Conway has helped in establishing the group as a true Australian icon and a truly international brand.
This success has enabled The Wiggles to enter new markets such as Asia and Latin America and take United States by storm – they are now recognised as Australia’s number one entertainers and were awarded Australia’s national exporter of the year in 2005.
Prior to heading up one of Australia’s most successful international brands, Mr. Conway was General Manager and Head of Strategy and Business Development at Standards Australia for five years.
Conway played a significant role in helping reform and reinvent Standards into what now is a high profile brand, in such time the Group became a leader in online technical publishing and formed Australia’s leading management assurance groups.
Conway has also spent a number of years in senior consulting roles with Ernst & Young in Europe and Australasia and Deloitte Touche, and in such time advised on many major strategic projects, particularly in healthcare, an area where he started his career as a health professional in London.
Conway’s passion for football was first realised after growing up a stones throw away from Old Trafford in Manchester, while presently, Conway plays football competitively for Baulkam Hills’ Over 35’s representation alongside Mariners Development Manager Alex Tobin.
Conway has a very strong community ethic and is proactive in a wide variety of Charity work, including raising funds for Tsunami ravaged areas, the Steve Waugh Foundation, Charlie Teo’s Cure for Life Foundation and Don Spencer’s Australian Children’s Music Foundation.
"We’re understandably delighted to be welcoming Mike onto the Mariners board – he’s an individual that has contributed enormously to one of the real Australian success stories in recent years and we’re certain he can contribute just as positively to the Mariners," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.
"Mike has priceless experience in dealing with one of our key demographics, families and kids, as well as being a major part in building a successful global brand, not to mention a strong passion for football and the Central Coast region, which is a common theme amongst each of our existing board members."
