Lets put Hutch up front with Sasho now that we have our backline sorted and Jedinak comes back into DM. Hutch's confidence is sky high and he will be able to convert that possession and space he always has into the perfect support Striker for Sasho, players will be closing him down and he can do his beautiful sharp turns that he does to shield the ball with his body to draw 2 or 3 more in, then he can flick to release Sasho who will have the mind to run into the most exposed area, Hutch does this all day but its always in the deep side of midfield where a goal scoring opportunity doesn't present itself.
This will leave a nice gap in our midfield to have shake things up a bit, for instance, assuming Kwasnik and Brown are out or atleast not 100% ---------------Danny Clark------Boogs--Vidmar------Heff -----------------Jedinak Gumps--------Tommy---------Owens -----------------------Hutch --------------Sasho

Hutch was on fire in this role season one pre injury. Didn't have the confidence when he came back last season

Hutcho has looked a different player in V3 in his CM role, and I'll be the first to admit he has surprised me and that I thought him playing there against Sydney in round 1 was a bad decision.......since then he's grown from strength to strength.....let him keep doing what he's done so well.

No, but I read the article too; www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,22608766-23215,00.html It's now almost impossible to be confident this guy will ever come good.

Mrdja's only hope is to get a handful of solid games behind him towards year's end in the hope that someone like Sydney or Newcastle pick him up on a minimum wage+good bonuses deal.
Else he's fux0red.

. This is our best shot a Asia so far, and we need to have a strikeforce, or we are not getting there. people should be aware that this season's premiers and champions may not necessarily get a berth in the ACL due to lobbying from australia and japan the structure of the ACL may change allowing a-league to qualify for the ACL immediately after the season finishes I heard that they paln to expand the ACL and maybe we could get four spots if we expand the league to ten teams. But agree it is a worry we qualifer for ACL and get knocked out by the switch over. Of course you realise what this means we have two win 2007/2008 & 2008/2009 for sure to be sure

I think it would be excellent if they change it, even if it means the mariners have to miss out, its the most ridiculous setup at the moment, missing over an entire year for the teams chance to play, the teams are almost always completely different and lacking the players that got them into qualification in the first place!! Sydney - Dwight Yorke left, they sucked Melbourne this year - No Fred, they sucked...
We need the team that actually qualifies to be the team that actually plays! Altho, i think it would be more logical if melbourne got stripped of their place in this coming up Asian cup and the two teams from this season go in instead.

Article about the hunt for a striker the key sentence being: A player in Singapore and another in China are coming under consideration by the Mariners but they are also investigating signing a player on loan from a UK club. Wonder if by player in China they mean the other Griffiths?

any word on kwasnik's fitness test? are we going to have to take redders as an outfielder? I would have Trott as the outfielder and Redders as the bench keeper. Trotty's kicking is his best aspect.

Oh this match is shaping up as a goalkeeper's wet dream. Not enough outfielders fit, 3 goalies in the squad...... Would Danny get his big chance to create havoc up front on set pieces? Would he insist he gets a run in the outfield, and would Lawrie give into him? Does ANY of our goalies have any experience playing outfield? Who is the best tackler, best passer, can read the midfield play? I suspect an injured Kwassi would get a run before any goalie gets to run onto the field as a sub.

If it's only going to hurt Kwassa more to run around, I would rather Trotty run around and annoy some strikers if we are in the lead in the last 10.
If we are drawing or trailing of course you would need to go Kwas. We don't even know if Redders is going there at this stage and the 11 or 12 we have are actually quite fit so I think Lawrie will just go with the guys we have and tell them to stick it out.

In all honesty, I think Lawrie would possibly think of running one man down rather than put a goalie onto the field as a sub, or risk Kwassi if he wasn't up for a run. Suppose it just depends on when subs need to be made...if at all.

Can't imagine a keeper actually getting a run on the field, but 2 on the bench is looking more likely.
After Porter's red-card, can you imagine the risk of having a keeper out there?

I agree - have Tommy just in behind the striker(s), Hutch in midfield and Jedinak back in defensive midfield doing what he does best......although I worry about having only 1 forward, and worry even more about it being Petrovski.
