It's obvious we need a prove goal scorer... Nik obviously can't continue here, as we really need to get something back from our investment.
Rodriguez would be great, but I highly doubt we'll get him as I think he was demanding a pretty high salary from all reports.

Columbian strikers are good on Football manager..... but in real life they have alot of drug money in there country and they'd be on a far bit of a salary. Anyone thought about maybe getting any asian cup players in. some were very impressive and wages would be massive.

Everyone keeps talking about europe or south america for players, why not look in our own backyard first

Anyone thought about maybe getting any asian cup players in. some were very impressive and wages would be massive. i got an idea: Iraqi's, they won the asian cup so they produce footballers that are as good as anyone in the region can produce plus their country is in the s**t's so it wouldnt be hard finding one that may want to leave and they seem to have a competitive league structure in place with many of the players in the asian cup squad members of the Iraqi league. the problems are obviously whether we could compete with them in terms of money, but it might be cheaper than other gulf nations, it would be a hard place to scout and possibly a long term wait to get them over here and may create a logistal nightmare. i dont know much about the iraqi league or its players but i feel if considered seriously it might pay off

A lot of the Iraq team don't want to leave the gulf, they want to be around the area just in case anything happens to family or friends.

And a number of others have already gotten into European clubs, I believe. Again, closer to home than Australia.

we have no chance of signing good strikers from asia because:
1. strikers of a-league quality in asia are few and far between 2. those of a-league quality (and less) command much more money than the mariners could ever hope to offer
we need to find an older striker who has made his dollars and is now looking for a lifestyle change for himself and possibly his family - a new adventure or challange
that is why both dwight yorke and juninho have come here on reduced salaries
oh, can people please stop bleating on about aloisi - as fish said he is expecting way too much money

oh, can people please stop bleating on about aloisi - as fish said he is expecting way too much money That was my fault. I brought it up. I just thought 2 months without a contract would have reduced his ability to demand as much money as he was. Speculating can be fun, but as this week goes on I'm getting more interested in seeing what Simon and Sasho can do this weekend.

A player on loan is definitely the way to go. How about James Troisi he's not getting, well any, game time with the Geordies, with Owens and Viduka fit. Plus he'd already know at least Danny, Boogs and Porter.

I think liverpool would be reluctant to let kewell come here with the percieved physicality of the league.

See what happens with Thompson, although I still don't think he's THAT great.

But I can completely understand why he chooses to stay in the UK. His wife is English, his kids are probably more English than Aussie, he has the lucrative contract and the lifestyle over there. But the number of games he's expected to be available for, when fit, goes against his medical history I reckon. Would be delirious if he ended up signing on for us for a guest role or short term signing!
